    Default Nobel Peace Prize 2014

....is awarded to Kailash Satyarthi and Malala Yousafzay for "their struggle against the suppression of children and young people and for the right of all children to education."

Children's rights are linked to peace by the following: "In conflict-ridden areas in particular, the violation of children leads to the continuation of violence from generation to generation."

The justification in Alfred Nobel's will is formulated as 'The struggle against suppression and for the rights of children and adolescents contributes to the realization of the "fraternity between nations"'.

That's the formality, now go ahead and explain everything that's wrong with this, why Jagland is Satan himself and how the Peace prize is a charade.

    Expected.
Malala was the most politically correct option.

I can't understand why some people considered Snowden a probable winner. If he worked in KGB, he would have been a valid candidate, but "his actions exposed us to the Axis of Evil", so he had no chance.

I would actually prefer him for the Nobel Prize, but Malala deserved it, too.

Don't know and don't really care. If it's true they fought for children's rights and their education, kudos. I applaud it.

Doesn't stop the peace prize being a joke on the whole, though.

I will laugh my ass of the day that someone says 'no thanks'. Nobel peace price lost all gravitas, can't be taken serious.

Two people have turned down nobel prizes already, one of them was a peace prize, the other for literature.

Gracias, didn't know that. If someone would want to give it to me I wouldn't enjoy the company I am in.

You need to be aware that the corns(horns)-part of unicorns poses a potentially deadly health hazard.
    You're basically promoting weapons here.

Hand me the saw, we need to do this. If it isn't for us it's for our children. This has GOT to STOP.

Unicorn or not, this will not stand. (are you ok with 10%)

The only live unicorn lives in a cave in North Korea anyway, just go with horses.

It's not likely that anyone or anything from North Korea will get the nobel peace prize anytime in the near future.

    Good for Malala.
She deserves whatever accolades she gets, I could care less what the politics involved. She has done more for her cause than most people ever will. And if she is smart, she will use the money to keep herself out of that part of the world forever and ever

One of the better choices, either by modern standards or those set out by Nobel (which I think are a little silly but that has been addressed in other threads).

I can root for anyone trying to make Central Asia a better place to live and increase people's chance to reach for a brighter future.

No Hellfire can ever make that kind of positive contribution -- at best all it can do is remove an obstacle.

Congratulations to Malala, and the Indian fellow working to stop trafficking in children. Excellent choice.

It would be nice for Thich Nhat Hanh to receive it, and he doesn't have too many laps around the sun left. But I don't think he'll ever receive it. I guess the committee is still sore over Martin Luther King Jr. lobbying for him to get it back in the 60's.

I was surprised to see that Ghandi was a famous perrenial snub when he was alive as well.

SHe is a decent orator, and getting shot wasn't good.

But now she appears to spend her time flying around the world giving speeches and collecting awards as politicians fight to be seen next to her - and giving awards is nearly as good as getting there to be change.

What peace is she supposed to have helped cause?

That is the cause... to what extent has what she done reduced it? Pakistan / Afghanisan much better?

If it is trying to make things better, then I am sure there are many people all over the place (and most with less publicity) trying. But success seems to be rather limtied.

That's not a requirement for getting the award, and thus irrelevant.

So... the Chemistry Nobel went to the inventors of the blue LED after a decade of work. Would they equally have got it if they'd really, really wanted to invent it? Seems to save a lot of time.
