I think it could still have been better than what they turned out.

Let's just call it "unquantifiable disaster" in either case. In my opinion, Thief is the best adventure game ever made and frankly I find the lack of respect all these game developers show for what LGS made quite appalling.

Well...it and Deus Ex tie for that honor. I cannot find it in my heart to elevate one over the other.

I tried to finish Deus Ex 3 or 4 times but I always get bored at some point. It gets a bit too repetitive.

Same, it never grabbed like Deus Ex and Invisible War (yes I'm serious) did. Bored me.

I'm more of a C&C Red Alert 2 man myself.

Red Alert 1 tickled me. You could press ctrl+a to ally with the NPC, then they sent an army full of their best tanks in the middle of your base, so if you unallied them, boom!

TDP and TMA are iconic games for me. They define my adolescence and the atmosphere has forever seeped into my bones and deep into my soul. Thief 4 was a mockery. Too many reasons to ste why - from the downright idiotic explanation of the need for motion capture hence not using Stephen Russel as Garrett's voice, through the gangsta sideways bow, passing through the consolesuqe loading zones "masked" as windows, from the travesty that is the conextual rope arrow compared to the true freedom of the OG rope arrow, right down to the lack of atmosphere, the poor overal voice acting and the engine not being crisp and dark enough for a thief game.

I am not sure anyone went through the game at the max max difficult ysettings where a single startled pidgeion would return you to the prologue. But that was about the only thing that interested me, since the story was so incredibly stupid up to the point where I had reached.

Every portrait obscuring a safe has the same two buttons. Garrett's sidekick is a "strong independant angry girl" trope. Garrett's vocie sounds like a mobster rackateer from 1940s New York. No levell editor was added even though DromED extended the life ot Thief and Thief 2 basically indefinitely.

But wait, there's more: bugs, conversation loops, completely immersion breaking fields of vision for guards, restricted levels, limited and repetitive side missions, bugged levels that can't be completed on the higher difficulty settings AT ALL...

I might fire it up if I buy it at 75% discount and I get a new GFX card, but with so many other games to play and so little time, I doubt it.

Only the first two are Tnief for me. Highlights aside Thief 3 sucked as well, a step back in every way.

Vuk has some nice pics of what the Dark engine is capable of now, they will blow your mind

The New Dark patch actually removed a lot of the limitations of Dark Engine. I expect that the level of the FMs with New Dark is now substantially better. As a person who'se dabbled with DromEd I know how much work goes into making a FM. The fact that EM didn't hire a single FM designer is laughable. Hell, Purrah even worked on Dishonored! He designed the Lady Boyle mission and it's very reminescent of Life of the Party from T2.

I know of one, the guy who made 'The Inverted Mansion' was hauled in by the Thief 3 team, don't know what his contributions are. It's great that the Thief community is still so active. I know nothing of DromED but as I understand it's really hard to work with, I am glad others do it for me.

Waiting for Vuk to show the pics, it's the bestlooking stuff I have ever seen, it's amazing, the look only the Dark-engine can provide.

edit, if you want something that was clearly designed by people who are fans get 'Dishonored', awesome atmosphere and very ghostable.

This last one was a test I made. On the left is a pillar with the maximum amount of sides they used to allow. On the right is a pillar with the maximum amount of sides they now allow. The seem you see is a texture seem from a texture I created that wasn't perfect at the time. It is a not a hard edge.

All of these pictures are very old from when just after the patch was released. I have not been following it since then, so I have no idea what progress has been made since.

I know about Dishonored mate, hence I mentioned Purah and how he made one of the best levels of that game :)

New dark looks awesome. I will have to download and fire up some FMs.

Didn't know he worked on Dishonered, Calendra's Legacy is probably the best fanwork ever.
