System Freezes and Lockups

If that is when the text starts going whacky (turning into rainbow lines), then yes I've had that happen a few times. For the most part I have not had problems with my system and the NVIDIA drivers. I had the infinite loop problem happen only once within the first couple of weeks of ownership.

I uninstalled MTW, then reinstalled it, downloaded the patch. I even installed the 8.1 driver off the game cd, even though a pop up message stated that my drivers were up to date. Playing a new campaign as the Danes I'm having the game freeze up during the strategy map, either while scrolling across the map or moving game pieces, the last time it froze when the AI was moving pieces on the map. Any ideas?

My specs:
AMD-K7 (tm) Processor,MMX,3DNow,650 MHz
Memory: 256 MB RAM
19530 MB Space
Video Card: e-TNT2 Model 64
Monitor: Samsung SyncMaster 750
Display info: 800x600 (32 bit)
Windows 98
Sound Card: Direct Sound (SB Live! Wave Out D400)
Logitech wheel mouse

You asked for ideas:

Why uninstall, then reinstall MTW? problems?

"Freeze" means game stops, no other action? How long? Does it ever resume action? What do you do when it freezes?

Game worked OK before the uninstall/reinstall/patch?

I uninstalled and then reinstalled because others on this site recommended it, I believe erado was one. I only had occasional freeze ups before the patch. It freezes up for good when it happens,not just a delay, and the music repeats the same refrain over and over like an old record skipping. I ctrl-alt-delete to get back to desk top, then start over. It seems to be real inconsistent though, because after several freeze ups, it played fine for 2 hours tonight. The night before it froze up so much, practically every turn, I gave up playing. Reminds me of an old car that runs like crap till you take it to the garage, then it runs like a top

Mine will occassionally lock up when moving game board pieces or scrolling across the strategy map, haven't had it happen during a battle though.

Same here, and I've been running VI with the latest patch and then, 200 years into a campaign, it starts freezing on the campaign map. Only way to get out is to reboot. Could it be something to do with quick saving?

This is really annoying, after playing the game for months with no probs, suddenly the campaign map starts freezing up. I've reinstalled both MTW and VI several times and it keeps coming back. Music keeps playing for about 10 seconds and then everything is frozen. I'm ready to uninstall for good, even though I love this game.
