    Hi all,

Building mods for a time now I have stumbled to a zillion of files that are totally useless or seem useless. The problem is that with the appearance of the VI these files have increased a lot.

    These files generate many problems.
    1. They increase to the confusion that exists in the directory structure of MTW making a moders life that much more difficult.
    2. The get a lot of useful space on your hard drives. How much space ... a lot trust me.

    The rules
    1. This thread is dedicated in finding out which are these files that are safe to delete and removing them So please lets reduce the comments because no one is going to read 10 pages of comments to get 1 page of info.
    2. Before you post something for removal here it would be good if you have tested it and it does not affect the game in any way
    3. Finally … hopefully we will come up with a list of things that are ok to delete BUT the people posting can’t be held responsible if the MTW does not work after that OR a module of it. (Hopefully this will not be a problem BUT just in case)

    Good initiative Komninos

I propose each contributor makes just one post and edits it as he goes along. Komninos will might edit his first post and adds all the valid entries. Also we should use the same clear format, something like this perhaps (assuming that we don't have to name the root directory):

    /Standard
    - This entire directory can be deleted as it contains Shogun graphic files.

    /Standards
    - This entire directory can be deleted as it contains Shogun graphic files.

    /Textures/Men/..
    - Every *.LBM file in a directory containing a BIF file can be deleted
    - /ActionsDiddy directory can be deleted.

    *** Updated ***

    /Techhelp/
    -

    /campmap/
    - castleflags.BIF , chatbox.BIF , daimyomarkers.BIF

    /campmap/buttons/
    - _button_season.BIF

    Cheers, Duke John

in Shogun the lbm files were used when ram or video card were not suitable for the game,
if you had an 8MB video card for example and played online in a 4v4 your ram was not up to the task,
and shogun substituted the lbm graphics, when i made my naginata add-on for warlords i also had to edit the lbm files..

please try a maximum number of men on the battlefield, with as little system ram as possible to check, (remove a stick or two of ram)
and if you have an old video card lying around that will be an even better test...

I was looking round at the files yesterday and came across the Voices/Battleevents folder. I know some of these are used, but have you guys ever heard the Army Wavering sounds?? Or the Army routing sounds either??? And the reinforcements ariving??

Anyone know if they are essential, they sure take up a lot of room on my hardrive

Ok Guys, I have just tried removing most of the files you suggest, and every time I try to start a new campaign I get errors over Missing Images. First I had Campmao/Ships Port missing, so i restored the whole Ships directory.
Now 100Monsl is missing So I am restoring all of those files as well.

Looks like removing these files does not work for all

    Leave the port.bif .
The rest are from shogun , so you don't need them for sure.

The mons are from shogun also .
    Not sure about that one

    LK

    EDIT:

Just to clear then mons issue .

These mons are the shogun ones
    100monsl.BIF
    100monsr.BIF

These mons are the MTW ones
    is_heir_mon.BIF
    is_king_mon.BIF
    is_merc_mon.BIF
    is_noble_mon.BIF

What about the SetOrigins:: entries in the early.txt. I believe ECS told us that these are not used any more. Has anyone successfully deleted them from the campaign file?
Yours was not at first a criminal nature. At 10 you stole sugar,at 15 you stole money,at 25 you committed arson. At 30,hardened in crime, you became an editor. Worse yet is in store for you. You will be sent to Congress, then to the penitentiary. But,all will be well. You will be hanged.

    \campmap\portraits\

While having a large variety of pics for generals, emissaries and other types of agents may be nice, many of them are little more than a slight variation of another pic. About 100mb(of the original 130mb) can be pared off by removing near-duplicates and those you simply don't like. The game will function perfectly with only 1 pic in each of the portrait directories, but a little variety is nice.

    \campmap\catholic\prince\
    \campmap\orthodox\prince\
    \campmap\muslim\prince\

These contain about 13mb in apparently unnessessary images, unless someone has seen them used by the game.

One caveat - If you remove some of the portraits, make certain that those that are left have consecutive numbers starting with 01.

it would be wise to leave at least one image in each the prince folders,
v1.0 attempted to load images from those folders, but those folders were empty, and thus v1.0 used default images,

v2.0 included images for those folders,
but i suspect the code calling them was removed...
