    Prologue

Ariminius, Chief of the Cherusci tribe (Teutonic) spent 6 years in the Roman army learning the Roman art of war. Ariminius gained Roman citizenship and returned home to Germany in 7 A.D. to find his tribe being opressed by the Roman governer Quinctilius Varrus. When Arminius saw this he brought his people into open rebellion against Rome.

    Part 1

According to the Roman historian Dio, Ariminius lured Varus deeper into the woods by putting Varus under the impression that his tribe would be compliant to Roman rule. Varus fell so badly for it that he even left some troops behind to guard the tribe from neighboring foes. Varus had even been warned by Segestes (who didn't wan't his people to go against Rome) but still Varus remained stubborn and left.

    Strategy

It is impossible to reconstruct exactly what happened but we know that Ariminius wanted to make a suprise attack on Varus in the middle of his army and take out Varus and the high officials while splitting the army in two. This is a feasable strategy as there were just Varus and his personal guard of 220 some odd men and many non-combatants in the middle. It is important to remember that Varus had no idea that this had been planned so he had 1 legion far ahead of the main host as scouts, non-combatants and Varus' guards in the middle and the two other legions behind them bringing up the rear. If Ariminius succeeded, the Roman army would be split in two and have no communacations or leaders. This would utterly confuse them and bring thier morale down.

    Days 1-2-3

While Ariminius did his attack striking the middle, other parts of his army impailed the 2 legions at the back of Varus' army with javelins and arrows. There were odviously heavy casualties, mainly of the non-combatants, but Varus managed to survive this onslaught.

On day two the Romans re-organized their forces. The 1'st legion that was scouting, thinking they were the only survivors, went up north into the bogs...

The Romans tried futally to defeat the Germanic postion on top of Kalkries Hill but were easily repulsed. At this point Ariminius had achieved one of his goals; he had succesfully devided the Roman army in two. It is beleived that the southern half of the army was anhilalated which just left the northern half of the army and Varus. The Romans had no choice but to burn thier wagons and baggage trains and leave. When the Romans finally started climbing up Teutoberger Wald(on day 3) they were ambushed yet again, suffering heavy casualties.

On the fourth day they reached the valley of Ems. It was a miserable day in both weather and Roman heart as the rain poured down slowing what was left of the Romans. It is this day that Varus and his ranking officers all took their own lives. The legionaries must have lost all that was left of their will to live as many did the same as their general Varus. Some surrendered and the rest kept going, hoping for a miracle...

Yeah yeah yeah, you know as well as the rest of us that you could post all the information in a single post with spaces between each paragraphc.

Stage two, we say something may be about to happen, but we should do nothing about it.
Stage three, we say that maybe we should do something about it, but there's nothing we can do.
Stage four, we say maybe there was something we could have done, but it's too late now.
