    Question

    K,

you told me recently that you finally killed off Windows Messenger, seeing i have already killed the messenger service, and that Microsoft Messenger is far more usefull, can you explain how to kill of Windows Messenger.

I truly cannot understand how microsoft can release 2 versions of the same utility with different functions, where one is supposerd to supercede the other other,
but you cannot uninstall the first version easily...weird.

    Cheers,
    B.

and just so we never lose that little trick

Can't seem to find a way to uninstall Windows Messenger? Well, there is a way: Click Start > Run and in the Open: box type the following command (press OK when done):

    Code Sample RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove[/QUOTE]

You can just copy/paste the command above in the Open: box from the Run command.

Note: If you have Windows XP Service Pack 1 installed, you'll receive this error message:

Just click OK, Windows Messenger will still be removed.

there is another way that we discussed in a thread here a while back. it involves the sysoc.inf file in windows and add/remove programs. once you know the trick, it's pretty simple. and, since there are other hidden files listed in the sysoc.inf file, this may well be the way to delete other unwanted windows files.

just remember, always make a backup to any files like this before altering. a restore point wouldnt be a bad idea either.
