yeah you can zoom in slightly by pressing the '/' key (on the number pad) to zoom in, and '*' to zoom out

I think it zooms to the same height level as MTW, or perhaps just slightly higher

It's not really zoom, it's simply moving the camera up and down, iirc. With a nice graphics card, the highest settings and the lowest camera stance it looks quite nice actually. (At least, I think it looks nice)

Nice to see you from these parts Guineawolf

The battlefield is better surveyed from a distance - hopefully you'll find out that zooming in has little to offer in playing a nice satisfying, atmospheric battle. The transition from RTW controls might be a headache at first, but once you get geared with them you'll never go back.

It works on the campaign map as well. It's nice to check out figures and stuff from close by now and then, but in general I always use it on the highest setting in battle and pretty high on the campaign map as well. A good point of view is incredibly important in battle, of course.

If you compare the sprites of STW with those of RTW you'll find that a unit and its activity status (has their formation been broken? do theyfight vigorously? are they encircled?) is clearly identifyable.

In RTW unit sprites are a blurred spot from camera heights that enable battlefied surveyllance and their movement animations, such as running, are a joke.

Better ants than plasma spots for me.

With RTW the main focus was on the close up cosmetics of the 3D unit models, and not on how they would be viewed from a distance.

I can t find the "zoom" keys on my laptop-any ideas which one they might be?

"/" and "*" don t do anything... (Only one is on the numpad)

It might be "+" and "-", and maybe you have to press ctrl...I don't remember, but if you go to options and choose to customize keys you should see it.

I am 80% sure that shogun does not have zoom.

Thanks, Sasaki Kojiro. Im looking into the Options and adjusting the settings. I totally forgot about that possibility!

Xehh II: its not exactly zoom as in MTW but more an angling of the camera to better see your units as a group.

It's either Num pad / * or Num pad - + I can't remember which. The infantry sprites look ok close up as well. I think that, as with MTW, the cavalry sprites still look pixellated at close range due to the scaling.

Thats had a dramatic effect on my enjoyment of the game! Thanks to all.

Its more like a set of camera options than a zoom, but its perfect for the purposes needed on the Shogun battlefield.

Now about the Samurai Warlords mod...

You can zoom in closer in MTW/VI, and barocca doubled the resolution of the cavalry sprites in Samurai Warlords.
