It doesn't- usually "bold" is all they have. It really is vile stuff. Their espresso coffee is just as vile- it's just when it's in cappuccino form, there's so much steamed milk with it that it's harder to notice.

Well, you can't invite a girl you like back to yours for a milk and water, now, can you?

    I like their coffee actually.

It's ok, you've probably just never had good coffee...

That's probably doubtful, Xiahou, as I've been to many high end establishments who don't serve crap quality coffee.

Starbucks is a matter of taste. Some people hate it, some people love it.

The trouble is that they over roast most of the coffee they brew. I (and many others, I would argue) like to be able to taste the character of the beans and their origins. Heavy roasting burns off much of the oils and other flavors in the coffee that give it that character. Some suspect that the reason Starbucks does this is for consistency- so that their coffee will always taste the same everywhere. I don't know why they do it- I just think it's disgusting.

Now, in the rare cases where I can find Starbucks serving coffee that isn't "bold", it can be tolerable- but that's been rare in my experience.

I'm not telling you that you can't like it- you're free to like whatever you want. It's just that it's not generally considered to be good coffee by aficionados/professionals. Consumer Reports testers' description sums it up nicely for me:
Starbucks, $1.55, was strong, but burnt and bitter enough to make your eyes water instead of open.
Myself, I usually roast and brew my own coffee- but locally, I think Wegman's and a few of the mom & pop places also make a decent cup. I think there's a Wegman's near State College, try some of theirs sometimes. The Columbia Supremo is usually good and sometimes they'll even offer a Yirgacheffe or Nyeri that's pretty good imo.

    Oh my god.
I remember staying up for another 96 hours after I made that caffeine O.D post.

Unlike you Demon, i didn't take enough to keep a small elephant going for 2 days.

By time it came for me to go bed, i was absolutely knackered - the caffeine had made me do more excercise than my body had the energy to do, and subsequently i slept until lunchtime today.

It doesn't help that i didn't eat anything yesterday.

Chinese coffee has cinnamon, Russian coffee has vodka in it, and Scottish coffee has some whiskey. Very delicious.

Russian coffee has no vodka in it.

Too much coffee can make you crazy, literally.

As a night shift worker, though, I need my fix.
