Thread: Jays \"Superior General\" event idea

  1. #1

A guy named jay over at the offical forums came up with this idea and i thought it was brillant so i decided to repost it here.

    jay says

"It can get irritating having your best general stuck in charge of a crappy, outdated unit and there is currently no way to change it. I know nothing about programming, but would this work?

Add a "Superior General" event every time a general hits command level 5 or 6 (or whatever) and automatically give him a bodyguard unit of the best available cavalry, just like an heir. The event is already there for each command level increase, and so is the addition of a cavalry unit (with each heir) so would it be possible to combine them with a patch? "

i second this jay . very good idea. it gets a very annoying when your 6 star generals unit is only comprised of milita or the like and you need to throw the unit into battle to plug a hole in the line.

I said it there and i'll say it again here it's a good idea and is surely historically accurate that a big rich general with land and titles would have all the best kit money could buy on the battlefield.

Good idea lads, and original too. Seems so much better than the regular "the rebellions are too big", "the feudal seargents are overpowered, boo-hoo-hoo"...

There is an idea to consider for a future update (it's not possible to include it in the forthcoming patch... or is it? )

I agree 100%. This is a very good idea, and would be fairly realistic...I bet kings protected their good generals very well.

    I agree 110%.

My level 7 peasant general is the laughing stock of my empire (even though he commands 300 gothic knights in battle!)

Ah, the "super peasant general". I'll bet his unit has enough valor to take on a unit of chiv knights by themselves. Remember, valor can make an otherwise crappy unit into a surprisingly decent powerhouse.
You there, knight Yes, sir? We just lost that battle. Why did you order your men to charge that unit of enemy sergeants? Uh, I was impetuous, sir 'IMPETUOUS? Impetuous? Men Kill him, I want his head

Preferably make it optional though... wouldn't want to lose the general of some crusaders etc.

    good idea and realistic
think about it... IRL if a lowly militia commander proved himself in battle and command over and over his staus would rise accordingly and soon he would have his own bodyguards and staff

I like this idea too. Even if not for high rank generals then at least for Lords. If you assign a title to general, he should become a "noble" unit, knights or something along those lines. My greatest Lord, governor of Flanders, had 8 acumen or something like that, led a bunch of peasants. What's wrong with that picture?

I think its a good idea but I still prefer to have my general in a swiss pike/feudal sergeant or italian infantry unit. I've had some real good generals in these units & they are unstoppable valour 10+ & they aren't vunerable to spear units. So I think probably the best way to do it is give you the option of upgrading the unit example urban milita to swiss pike or halberdier.
at the moment my rank 9 general(Feudal Sergeant valour 10 max armour & cathredal morale) is taking on the almohads & he is the perfect AUM killer.

Yes I agree with the idea, some good thinking there.

However there was a thread on this before the game was released where it was discussed if the General should be a seperate unit all by himself or perhaps with only 2 or 3 top Knights for protection.
Someone even did a mod for demo where General was a single man unit. That was a great battle mod.

That way the general would never go into battle himself but allow you to commit your best units into the battle. Often now the best unit is your Commanders 20 Royal Knight unit so having him hanging back out of harms way is not a good tatic if the battle is close.

But we will only get the General by himself or small unit when the number of units on battlefield is significantly increased, maybe TW3?

So yes the solution put forward by Jay would be a great mod to the game.

    Nice idea, like it.

Seems like some of the same programming that gives us princes with a guard could be used.
“You know the sound of thunder Mrs. Garret."
    "Ofcourse"
"Can you imagine that sound if I asked you to?"
    "Yes I can Mr. Hickok."
"Your husband and me had this talk, and I told him to head home to avoid a dark result. But I didn't say it in thunder. Ma'am, listen to the thunder.”

Plus consider the fact that lets say your heirs all die off, it wouldn't be unreasonable for a powerful and popular general to take over the empire.

i would like it if u got to pick the unit the general received when he achived his 5 star. based on your current unit production capabilities. (this is because i dont like or use much heavy cav)

only prob is the low valour factor of a new unit , but the complexity of valour upgrades makes my head hurt so i leave that factor without a solution

i also like the concept of choosing whether u want a new unit or want to keep ur old one cause they are already, chiv sergants or something.
