Default Broken Crescent Hotseat: Commanders of the Faithful

*Winner of the Best Hotseat Campaign award in the 2008 Org HOF*

    Greetings my brothers!

The dawn of a new age is upon us with the long-awaited arrival of the first Broken Crescent Hotseat at the Org!

Sign up now for your choice of faction in what will no doubt be the Hotseat event of the year!

If you haven't played the mod, download it here. And make sure you get the 1.05 patch too, there's a link in the same thread (but NOT version 1.5, we are still playing 1.0 with the 1.05 patch).

    For faction information see here.

    Rules:

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
    - We will be playing version 1.05 with hotfixes, admin-enabled to allow me to access the saved games of missing players and to switch factions between player and AI control. This version of the mod is compatible with M2TW 1.2, 1.3 or Kingdoms, and installs in a separate folder so does not affect the vanilla installation.

    - Each turn should be completed within 48 hours. Extensions can be granted in extenuating circumstances, at the discretion of the GM. After 48 hours with no contact from a player the GM will arrange for the turn to be subbed either by a sub designated by the player, or a neutral third-party sub, or a faction allied to that player, or by the GM in that order of preference.

    - All battles, including those between player-controlled factions, may be fought by the attacking player (against the VH AI), or auto-resolved.

    - Please send a private message to the next player in line to alert them that it is their turn.

    - Players are requested to compete in good faith and with a sporting spirit at all times.

    - No exploits. The following exploits are banned. This list is not exhaustive, and in considering a course of action the player concerned should have regard for the rule regarding sportsmanlike conduct. If there is any doubt about exactly what actions these exploits involve, or whether a given action which is not specifically banned would constitute an exploit, please seek guidance from the GM or other players before completing the relevant turn.

    - Re-loading of save game to play the turn again in a different way, or to create a different outcome.
    - Merchant fort exploit.
    - Surround and destroy exploit (relating to agents, also to armies or ships engaged in battle. An escape route of at least one tile must be left.)
    - Deliberately setting up tribute deals which will result in a faction going more than 20k in debt.
    - Deliberately exchanging territories for the sole purpose of gaining a free garrison.
    - Deliberate manipulation of the diplomacy system in order to break a siege, or achieve any other unrealistic in-game outcome.

    - The Turkish Sultanate declared war on the ERE, honouring a mutual defence treaty signed with Armenia.

    - After trading blows with the ERE, the Turkish Sultan Kilij Arslan was slain - his dying appeal for military assistance went unanswered, and his request for a jihad was rejected by the Caliph.

    Turn 10 update:

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
    - A territorial dispute between the Ghorids and the Rajputs threatens to spill over into outright war until the Caliph successfully mediates and helps the two sides negotiate a peace agreement.

    - The Treaty of Tblisi is signed between the Turkish Sultanate, the Kingdom of Georgia, the Kingdom of Armenia, the Solanki Rajputs and the Sultanate of Ghazni, providing for alliance and mutual defence between the parties. The Treaty does not oblige its signatories to join in the war between Turkey and the ERE.

    - Maharajah Vindhyavarman of the Solanki Rajputs is slain in a friendly fire incident while fighting some rebels.

    - The Great Seljuks and the Imamate of Oman are admitted as full members of the Coalition of Freedom, the name given to the group of signatories to the Treaty of Tblisi.

    - The Great Seljuks declare war on the Khwarezm Shah, citing breach of the Treaty of Rayy as their cassus belli.

    - The Caliph invites delegates of the Eastern Roman Empire, the Turkish Sultanate and the Kingdom of Armenia to peace talks, which result in the Treaty of Baghdad and an end to hostilities between the three nations.

    - The Ghorid Emirate breaks the terms of its peace agreement with the Solanki Rajputs and invades India.

    - The Coalition of Freedom declares war on the Ghorid Emirate.

    - The Rajputs suggest a trial by combat to settle their dispute with the Ghorids.

    - The Ghaznavids declare war on both the Khwarezm Shah and the Ghorid Emirate.

    Turn 15 update:

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
    - The Georgians accept the terms of the Treaty of Baghdad and are at peace with the ERE.

    - An army of the Kingdom of Armenia attacks an army of the Kingdom of Jerusalem, executing Count Raymond of Tripoli and renewing the conflict between the two Christian Kingdoms. The action is condemned by the Turkish Sultan and by the Caliph.

    - The Khwarezm capital Merv falls to Seljuk forces.

    - Peace negotiations begin between the KoJ and Armenia, but soon stall as Aleppo is taken by the Armenians and other nations weigh into the dispute.

    - A peace treaty is proposed between the Khwarezm Shah, the Ghaznavids and the Seljuks, brokered under the auspices of the Coalition of Freedom, but there is no agreement over its terms and as the Khwarezm armies enter Samarqand the Khwarezm city of Bukhara falls to Ghaznavid forces.

    - The Ayyubid Sultanate declares its neutrality in the Levantine dispute.

    - The Caliph celebrates his 40th birthday.

    - The ERE intervenes in the Levantine dispute, taking Tyre, Acre and Jerusalem from the Crusaders and establishing a 'protectorate'. The action is welcomed by the Turkish Sultan.

    - Peace negotiations to end the Levantine crisis are again initiated by the Turks, but soon stall in disagreement between the parties.

    - The last Takavor of Armenia is slain by raiding forces of the KoJ, riding deep into enemy territory. The Kingdom of Armenia is no more.

    - The Caliph intervenes in the Levantine dispute, taking Aleppo and Hama in a co-ordinated surprise attack, driving a wedge between the warring parties and claiming to seek a forced peace in the region.

    - A peace agreement is finally reached in the Levantine dispute. KoJ becomes a vassal of Rome, and Turkey and the ERE are allies.

    - The Shah of Ghazni becomes the new leader of the Coalition of Freedom.

    - The Rajputs leave the Coalition of Freedom.

    - Prince Nevoulos assumes the command of the Eastern Roman Empire.

    - Breaking the news that an invasion of the Turkish Sultanate by the Kingdom of Jerusalem has begun, the Caliph annexes the Kingdom of Georgia (which becomes the Protectorate of Georgia) and declares that he will not intervene to assist the Turks.

    - The ERE falls into financial depression, and hands back the occupied Levantine territories to the Kingdom of Jerusalem.

    - The Great Seljuks leave the Coalition of Freedom.

    - The Turkish Sultan is understandably upset at the collapse of his Coalition and the invasion of his lands, as is the Crown Prince, who expresses his discontent in a rather unique way.

    - After one last sting in the tail, the Turkish Sultanate tries to secure its survival by becoming a vassal of the ERE.

    Turn 25 update:

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
    - The Ghorids are forced into vassalage by the resurgent Rajputs.

    - It is revealed that the Caliphate, the Ghaznavids, the Ghorids, the Seljuks and the Omanis have been involved in a secret alliance known as the 'Brotherhood of the Faithful'. This alliance has been in existence from the beginning of the game and has used diplomacy and force of arms to manipulate events to its advantage.

    - The Khwarezm Shah offers to allow the Ghaznavids to become his vassals after fighting off the Ghaznavid army besieging his last remaining settlement Samarqand. The offer is unsurprisingly rejected.

    - The Turkish Sultanate is finally defeated by the Eastern Roman Empire, as the last Sultan of the Rum Turks ruminates on his fate.

    - The Eastern Roman Empire expands into the Black Sea area, and releases the Kingdom of Jerusalem from vassalage.

    - The Caliph presents the Kingdom of Jerusalem and the Eastern Roman Empire with an ultimatum: hand over Syria, the Levant and Anatolia or face attack from the armies of Islam.

    - The Caliph's ultimatum is immediately rejected by the Kingdom of Jerusalem.

    Turn 30 update:

    - The Kingdom of Jerusalem is defiant in the face of the Caliph's declaration.

    - The Eastern Roman Empire's pleas for peace and attempts at negotiation are dismissed by the Caliph, prompting a defiant statement from the Emperor Nevolous.

    - In the opening exchange of hostilities, the former Byzantine Emperor Alexius ambushes an invasion force led by the Caliph's Crown Prince Az-Zahir and is slain.

    - The Roman Emperor appears to surrender to the Ayyubids, with his capital under siege, and the Eastern Roman Empire becomes the Protectorate of Konstantinopolis. But not before he strikes back against the Caliphate invasion force, killing Crown Prince Az-Zahir and two of the Caliph's lesser generals.

    - The Caliphate mourns the death of Az-Zahir.

    - Seljuk armies sweep into Anatolia, seizing Cilician Armenia from the Kingdom of Jerusalem, and taking several formerly Turkish territories from the ERE.

    - Caliphate forces cross the Euphrates, taking Aleppo and Antioch from the KoJ.

    - The Ayyubid invasion force withdraws from their siege of Constantinople onto their waiting fleet, and in a bitterly ironic disaster, are sunk by pirates.

    - Emboldened by this twist of fate, the ERE fights on, taking Ani and Dvin in the former territory of Georgia from the Caliphate.

    - After some conflicting orders which confuse some of its soldiers, the Kingdom of Jerusalem repels the Ayyubid invasion of its lands and seizes Aqaba, Bilbeis and Al-Qahira, slaying the Great Salahuddin himself, before offering a peace treaty.

    - The Caliph urges Egypt to fight on.

    - In a surprising development, the Rajputs arrive in the Levant and attack the Kingdom of Jerusalem, having travelled vast distances with their war elephants.

    - Having received no response to their offer of peace, the Kingdom of Jerusalem defeats the largest of the remaining Ayyubid armies at Gaza, and offers another peace treaty.

    Turn 35 update:

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

    - The Kingdom of Jerusalem is perplexed by the Indian invasion, and attempts to make peace with the Rajputs - the attempt is rebuffed.

    - The Caliphate accuses the Kingdom of Jerusalem of germ warfare, an accusation which is swiftly denied.

    - Armies of the Caliphate capture Hama and Homs from the KOJ, and Ani and Dvin from the ERE.

    - Further defeats at the hands of the Seljuks bring King Baldwin of the KOJ to the negotiating table, and the Treaty of Jerusalem is signed. In exchange for peace with the Caliph and his allies, the KOJ will become the Protectorate of Acre and will be the Caliph's vassal.

    - Regime change comes once more to the Eastern Roman Empire, and a string of victories against the Seljuks in Anatolia is the result, with Kaesareia and Laranda falling to Roman arms.

    - The Caliph restates his ultimatum to the Basileos, and it is again rejected.

    - Trouble is brewing in the East between the Rajputs, Ghorids and Seljuks.

    - Meanwhile, the Rajputs attack the Romans at Attaleia and are repelled.

    - The Ayyubids confirm their peace with the KOJ, and ally with the Rajputs, before entering into a trade dispute with the Latins.

    - The Romans begin to turn the tide of the war, with victories in Anatolia and Georgia against the Seljuks and Caliphate

    - Sensing that the balance of power has shifted, the Georgians declare their independence of the Caliphate and throw off the chains of vassalage. Despite the Vizier's misgivings, there is nothing the Caliph can do but accept it.

    - The Roman Basileos offers Ani and Dvin to Georgia as a gesture of friendship.

    - The Romans experience at first hand the terrible plague that has sapped the strength of the jihadi forces.

    - Emboldened by their success, the Romans deliver an ultimatum of their own to the Caliphate and Seljuks.

    - Meanwhile, the Protectorate of Acre rebels against Caliphate rule, retaking its lost Levantine and Syrian holdings, and invading Egypt once more.

    - The Caliphate fights back against the Romans and makes a treaty offer to end the war. It is rejected by Rome and accepted by the Kingdom of Jerusalem.

    - The Rajputs again give a warning to their troublesome Ghorid vassal.

    - The Caliph reflects upon his losses, before negotiating peace with the ERE.

    Turn 40 update:

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

    - The Rajputs respond to the Ghorids' inevitable betrayal by capturing several Ghorid territories.

    - The Imam of Oman pronouces himself neutral in the conflict between Rajput and Ghorid.

    - In a premeditated move, the ERE declares war on the Kingdom of Jerusalem, seizing Cyprus, Tyre, Acre and Jaffa.

    - The Latins warn the Omanis not to interfere in their war in Egypt, before receiving news of reinforcements from Europe.

    - Caliph An-Nasir dies, aged 40, from the Levantine plague. His Vizier Marshed flees for his life after plotting against his successor, Abu-Bakr, who in turn falls victim to the pestilence a short time after.

    - He is succeeded by Caliph Sulayman, who has an immediate problem to deal with as the Caliphate's Eastern Army, led by Al Qahir and inspired by the exiled Marshed, surprises the Ghorid garrison at Firuzabad and seizes the city.

    - Frederick von Swabia is slain fighting the Romans.

    - The Rajputs continue their successful campaign against the Ghorids..

    - King Baldwin of Jerusalem is slain by the Egyptians at a fort outside of Cairo, prompting gloating remarks from the Romans and philosophical musings from the Rajputs.

    - The Romans continue to raid Latin positions in the Levant.

    - The Ghorids are finally defeated. Their leader Muhammed the Godfearer is slain, and is mourned by his former allies.

    - The Khwarezm Shah is finally defeated, his final settlement of Samarqand falling to the Ghaznavids.

    - The Romans make vague and unsubstantiated claims of interference by Seljuk and Caliphate agents on their soil. The accusations are denied by both parties.

    - The Great Seljuks invade Georgia.

    - The Latins make good on their threat and destroy the Omani army at Aqaba.

    - The Eastern Caliphate Army invades Oman, seizing Hormuz and Chabahar.

    Turn 45 update:

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

    - The Levantine plague runs rife in Roman-held Anatolia, crippling the Roman economy and casting its sickly pall over the young Emperor Artemios.

    - The Caliph publicly acknowledges the invasion of Oman.

    - The Georgians are forced into exile by the invading Seljuks, who seize their homelands and push on into Anatolia to face the Romans.

    - After an abortive attempt to secure a peaceful exchange of territories with the Seljuks and Avadids, the Roman delegation leaves the Caliph's Court, never to return.

    - The Caliph declares a Second Great Jihad against the Romans, joining the Seljuks in their invasion of Anatolia.

    - The Avadids welcome the Caliph's jihad, ally with the Seljuks, and recapture Bilbeis and Qahira from the Kingdom of Jerusalem.

    - The Rajputs join the invasion of Oman, capturing Muscat and Sur.

    - The Avadids recapture Gaza from the Kingdom of Jerusalem.

    - The Second Great Jihad progresses well, with Antioch falling to the Caliphate and the Seljuks making dramatic gains in Anatolia.

    - The Omanis fight back against the invaders, capturing Kerak from the Kingdom of Jerusalem, retaking Muscat from the Rajputs, and sinking the Rajput and Ghaznavid navies.

    - The Avadids turn on their erstwhile allies the Omanis, capturing Kerak, while retaking Qahira, Damyut, and Bilbeis from the KoJ.

    - The Caliphate seizes Suhar from the Omanis and Hama from the KoJ, while the Seljuks continue their push into Anatolia, taking Smyrna, Nicaea, Nicomedia, Sinope and Laodicea.

    - Jerusalem falls to the Avadids, who formally commit their nation to the New Caliphate of Seljuks and Abbasids.

I'll be cheesy and take the Rajputs, but (!) I'll promise not to use the merchant fort exploit to make myself unstoppable.

If we don't fill all the factions I may switch off too, especially if no one fills the Ghorids, as the eastern factions tend to have a pretty significant economic advantage IMHO, and if I was unopposed over there it might be a short campaign.

However, again I'm taking a risk by playing a faction I've never used before (like Milan). The closest I've come is when I've crushed the KoJ into tiny little pieces as the the Abbasids and Makuria - hopefully that won't happen this time... I mean that definately won't happen this time.

The third rule means that we fight our own battles against the AI instead of using the auto-calc., right?

I should clarify - I don't believe it's possible (or desirable) to disable the auto-resolve option completely, so players will have the option (where they are the attacker) to fight their battles against the VH AI or to auto-resolve them.

Where this battle is against another player-controlled faction the AI will step in for the defender.

Ahh, good. Now, if what I know of the Ghorids is true, you can probably march one of your starting stacks straight down to my area and tear me apart in about 2 seconds. Or you can conquer the rebels gradually and give me the chance to develop an economy, and we'll see where things go from there.

well seeing as it's you... you'll win anyway so I'll leave you alone and be a peaceful nation, unless no-one takes over the green blokes.

Looks like the map is slowly filling out.

If nobody takes one of the larger western factions I might switch to the ERE or Turkish Sultanate.

Hi! Though I'm really new to these forums and to BC, I'd really like to try my hand on an MP campaign!

I've had my share of RTW (especially RTR) experience so I'm not a total noob, but it was mostly between friends. I'm not sure how I'll fare against you guys, probably end up

I'd take the ERE and hope whoever takes the turks goes easy on the new guy

    Woohoo!

Welcome to the Org The Lemongate!

Welcome to the game Elite Ferret, barcamartin, The Lemongate and Tristan de Castelreng!

Tristan I put you down as Armenia, let me know if you'd rather have Georgia.

We now have nine players which is great, but I still have to test setting up the game so we'll wait another day or so before getting underway and see if anyone will take one of the other big factions like Turkey, Khwarezm, Ghazni or the Ayyubids.

Sounds good. It is really good for the game to have those factions player controlled. They are actually powerful then.

Ok commanders, I have tested the game setup and everything is working just fine.

The Lemongate thinks he might have one more player, so I'll wait another twelve hours or so and then post the link to the save game for the first turn, which will be ERE.

Please let me know of any last-minute drop-outs or faction changes before then.

I have updated the turn order and rules on the first post - please take a moment to have a look.

I just remembered something you might want to talk to Tosainu about (he's the one who explained the admin function to PK). There's an admin command to turn a faction from player to ai control. I wonder, could there be one to to the opposite? It'd be neat in case more players want to come in after we started.

Strange. I don't know any of the BC ones, but I remember beign surprised to find that in Europa Barbarorum the Romans did not use any of the Roman faction slots. If I recall correctly, they used the Seleucid one or something.

    Hi!

    Sorry for coming in late.

I'm the friend The Lemongate mentioned. Like him, I have never played a hotseat game but I'm excited at the prospect of trying :).

I would like to play The Kingdom of Georgia.
