The file preferences.empire_script.txt in the %APPDATA%\The Creative Assembly\Empire\scripts directory contains the values that can be edited via the "Options" menu, accessed from the application's main menu.

Note that the path described by %APPDATA% varies by Windows version:

  • For XP and earlier, it is: %HOMEDRIVE%%HOMEPATH%\Application Data\
  • For Vista, it is: %HOMEDRIVE%%HOMEPATH%\AppData\Roaming\

For most users, %HOMEDRIVE% is set to the drive letter of their hard disk: C:

The definition for %HOMEPATH% also varies:

  • For XP and earlier, it is: %HOMEDRIVE%\Documents and Settings\%USERNAME%\
  • For Vista, it is: %HOMEDRIVE%\Users\%USERNAME%\
