Howdy,

Little bit of background to preface the question:

Carthage broke faith with the alliance a few years ago, so I picked one of my generals and conscripted an army of the new "reform" troops. Rome was the only city capable of this conscription so I raised two other armies from the other central italy cities, capua etc, with the older high level troops. when an army was assembled I sent it against carthage, clearing sicilly first.

crossed the little part of the med with on "old" army and established a foot hold.

crossed again with another old army and took another city.

carthage was not happy about this so they sent waves of armies at me, but my two cities in africa held.

by now my "new" army was ready to sail.

sent it over to africa to intercept these carthage retalitory armies.

kick the crap out of the carthage armies time after time and got some "triumphus" message, ignored it, didn't know what it was.

Took a city with my interceptor army (i now hold three african cities)

I raised a "garrison" army when I decided to take the last city because my interceptor army was starting to dwendle. I decided i would take a city, send the garrison army over and take my interceptor army back to rome to reoutfit.

Carthage was having none of it. They sent two armies against two of the three african cities. (Neither garrisoned my "interceptor" army)

One carthage army was respectable, but not great, the other was a army of just under 1200 led by the faction leader himself.

I decided to test my luck. I left two small units in the newly taken town and set off with an army of just under 600.

kicked the crap out of the smaller army and broke that seige, then turned south.

after a 6mnth march I smashed into a smaller army near the faction leader army. This drew the bigger army into the fray.

I was the attacker so I had to lure the larger army into the fray in order to win.

using a screening like tactic I tricked the stupid AI into only commiting some of his troops at a time and i picked them apart for a while, then the ai charged

after hard fighting both the smaller army and the faction leader army including the faction leader where destroyed.

Question starts here if you want to skip the explanation

all that being said to say that when I back to the campaign map a message said something about imperator. Said I had to go back to Rome and I had to comquer my enemy's territory to get it.

Does this mean that this general has to conquer all of carthage in order to receive his imperator, because that would take about 40 years at best and he will be dead by then?

Thanks

Beeing hailed Imperator by the troops is the first step to be allowed a triumph in Rome. The next step is to be allowed it by the Senate. And then the general has to return to Rome to hold his triumph.

I think, it will be more frequent in 1.1.

I've had imperator, but the Senate has never agreed to it, so I have never gotten a chance to see a Triumphus.

Same here.

I've got a few vanquishers of this or that nation, and a few imperators.

But never a message from the senate! pah
