ok, well i didn't actually meet this guy, but just a couple minutes ago i saw UFC fighter diego sanchez (https://img225.imageshack.us/img225/7247/2565sanchezgassaway066uxa4.jpg) and his girlfriend UFC model ali sonoma (http://hotimg12.fotki.com/a/206_64/224_128/sonoma1.jpg) in a local health food store. i would have said something to them, but they looked like they maybe didn't want to be bothered. when i thought about it, i didn't really know what to say to them anyway.
i've also seen willem dafoe (http://www.voxpopblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/08/willem-dafoe.jpg) walking down the street (many years ago). and i once showered with the boston celtics (http://www.celticsbeagle.net/celts_team0506_1024.jpg) (few years ago, when they sucked).
anyone have any interesting stories about meeting famous types?
I've never actually met anyone but Chuck Norris spoke at my HS when I was a freshman or sophomore
and i once showered with the boston celtics (http://www.celticsbeagle.net/celts_team0506_1024.jpg) (few years ago, when they sucked).

Dear Lord, that was priceless.
Anyhow, for famous people I have met? Well, it's a little tough to remember, to be honest (the fact I'm dead tired doesn't help), but here goes:
Ron Stackhouse (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ron_Stackhouse)
Eugen Müller (http://www.greuther-fuerth.de/v3/verein/mannschaft_spieler.php?seitenid=2&chronik=0&team=2&saison=20072008) - click on his name for a description, though in German (a cousin of mine, though I won't say how close - we don't share the same surname anyways, so it doesn't really matter)
Robert Gysae (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Gysae) - I can't really say for sure if I met him or not, as I would have been fairly young, but there's a good chance I did, since he was a really close family friend
I'm searching through my memory to see what I can find, but nothing more is coming up so far.
EDIT: I'm not including famous people I've only seen, just people I've met.

Quidyou're quick. i thought about replacing some words before posting that, but i didn't think anyone would catch the (originally unintentional) pun. forgot the org is full of vultures. then again, you are a grizzled veteran.

It was irresistable...
More on topic...
I have met quite a few c-lebs. Among them some German nobility (I had the misfortune of teaching a 'von Hohenzollern', for example).
I have met Willi Bogner (think sports wear and James Bond), Nickolas Hayek and family (Swatch), Bruno Kernen (skiing), shook hands with and exchanged words with Prince Charles, talked to Andy Brehme (football) and taught his son etc. Too many I can remember, to be honest. I am sure I have forgotten some that, bar Prince Charles, you lot actually know...

I shook hands with Arnold Schwarzenneger when I was like five... he was speaking at state capitol or something. And then much more recently I ran into the biggest anti-jew of em' all Mel Gibson, at a local bar (guess he owns a ranch around here...) seemed like a decent guy, but he was pretty disconnected. I didn't really realize it was him at first, the huge beard was a pretty good disguise.

When i was 3 i saw John Major (British PM) shopping in my local kwik-save. Then again, i've never had the best facial recognition, and i was 3, so it was probably just some random old guy. Who looked a lot like John Major...

.
Fame is relative. I'm in good terms with many people in my area(s) of interest and contact regularly. Artists of various disciplines, authors etc. who would be recognised by many while meaning nothing to the rest.
Also I know the grandmother of a famous football (known to a certain minority as soccer ~D) player.

Well, I've conversed with animators who have worked at big names *cough*BlueSkyStudios*cough*Dreamworks*cough*Disney*cough* on the animation forums I frequent...I already feel priviledged. :laugh4:
EDIT: Funny...there's no space before the 'y' in 'Disney,' yet one shows up...

I shook hands and talked briefly with Sir Sean Connery on one of his visits to Australia.
He did not mention who he was, he was trying to keep it secret I suppose.
But you could see through the long, shaggy brown hair, starry glasses and flowery blouse he was wearing.
Very forceful man.

famous people on worldscale let's think:
Just seen up close:
Gorbatsjov, Bush senior and their wives when they visited powerful (and a bit corrupt) businessman near my home.
Actually talked to (although briefly):
A lot of the well known (ex)cyclist like Tom Boonen, paolo Betinni, Robby McEwen, Eddy Merkx, Johan Museeuw, ...

Shook hands with and made Phil the Greek laugh.
Probably some others, but I can't remember them - so they can't have been that famous...
Went to school with someone who acted in Master & Commander...
Me, every time I look in the mirror...
Let´s see...
Talked for a couple of minutes and got an autograph with all of the following:
again...."famous" is relative
Kurt Angle ->Olympic Gold Medal Winner / Professional Wrestler
Samoa Joe ( aka Nuufolau Joel "Joe" Seanoa) -> Professional Wrestler
João Garcia - Famous Portuguese Climber - the guy's climbed Everest
JOSÉ RODRIGUES DOS SANTOS - Portuguese Journalist and author
David Fonseca - Portuguese musician

I've a met a whole lot of Punk bands from the 90's.
I hung out with them backstage and even provided some of them with a place to sleep.
The most popular person was probably Billy Joe of Green Day.
A nice guy on the "Kerplunk" tour but later encounters proved that the fame didn't become him well.
I've occasionally come across German actors and TV personalities but I usually don't approach them.

made Phil the Greek laugh.
I would ask what the joke was, but given the context it would probably get you banned :laugh4:
I suppose on a world scale, the only well-known person I've met & conversed with would be Desmond Tutu, he was tiny, only reaches my chin, but his presence is huge, a real charisma about him.

I did get a Autograph from Superstar Billy Gram (misspell his name lol) when he came to our Bookstore not far from my house, and my Brother got a Jenna Haze's Autograph (Porn Star), but that about it.
I think I saw some of them celebrity thingies on television once. Was it last year? :inquisitive:

Yup...TNA Wrestling did a house show here in Lisbon last year...I waited by the back door of the arena after the show and got to met both of them when they came out....
we actually got a Kurt Angle - Samoa Joe match on that house show...it was a great match....
EDIT:
Also...if pornstars count..
then I´ve met Anastasia Mayo twice at conventions.

Arrigo Sacchi in an airport. Also David Hasselhoff, Beyonce, Al Pacino, came to speak at my university. I saw on the street: Bertie Ahern, HRM Juan Carlos I and HRM Sofia, Madonna... There are more, but I guess these are the most famous ones. Others would be football players, singers/musicians, and some local politicians.
Honourable mention goes for my granddad who met Fidel Castro back in the Bay of Pigs days.

I talked to Mickhail Gorbachev once, and shook his hand.
I was also approached by Philip Seymour Hoffman (from the Big Lebowski) and asked where a theater was at a local college where I was working. Unfortunately I had only been there a couple of days so I really didn't know my way around yet.
I've also shaken Bill Clinton's hand and met Howard Dean on a number of occasions.
Otherwise I've seen Bernie Sanders (Senator from Vermont), Al Gore, and probably a bunch of miscellaneous Vermont politicians speak.
...uh...
Well.....
..........
the author of some children's book blabbed at me when I was in sixth grade....I got in alot of trouble for calling him a "dork"

While the Los Angeles Lakers were in Hawaii, I was on an elevator with Shaquille O'Neill. No joke. (Or was it Kobe Bryant?)
Anyway, that week, me and my family happened to be there, at the same hotel.
Funny Lemur celebrity story:
So I'm interviewing for a media job I really want. I'm sitting in a cafe in Greenwich Village in NYC, talking to the editor. I'm completely focused on her, my whole sphere of concentration is on what she has to say. It's pretty busy in the cafe, and a couple sits next to us, the guy's elbow rubbing mine. Not very cool. It's loud, too. I'm straining to hear her as she talks.
The couple next to us is kind of loud, but I shut them out of my head. This is a job I'm after, and I'm not gonna get distracted. Finally they leave, and I see them jumping on bicycles outside. I can move my left arm again.
"Wow, you sure keep your cool," the editor tells me. I have no idea what she's talking about. I smile, which is the best thing to do when you're completely clueless.
"I mean, Brad Pitt and Gwynneth Paltrow are eating lunch next to us, and you act like they're nobody at all. That's wild," she said.
Ah. Now I knew who that guy elbowing me was. The only thing to do was roll with it. "I didn't want to stare or be weird," I said, lying through my teeth.

So did you get the job?
To continue - same room as Phil's wife, same functions as several MPs (not saying much, but hey), met a few (generally when they were ex-MPs), I'll think of more later... (Don't tend to remember this kinda thing)
Oh, and I made HRH laugh because I was (not intentionally) making some poor girl make a fool out of herself in a command task.
So did you get the job?
Yup. And I wound up interviewing celebrities for my money. Weird how things work out. Gotta admit, I hated it though. I never-ever want to go back to the world of celebrity worship ever again. It pays well, but it sucks your soul out.
I got an autograph from Tim Brown once (after waiting in a line lol). I've also met John Villa who won a Super Bowl with the Oakland Raiders, and who I've held quite a few conversations with. My soccer coach at my community college (or Junior College/JC), is Tony Igwe who captained the Nigerian national team in a World Cup, and who played against Pele several times...tho the picture of him and Pele shows Pele gracefully dribbling through several Nigerian's including himself trying to catchup lol. Also, a teammate of mine from this years' season is the son of the guy who coached the Togo's national team at the World Cup whom I watched play Switzerland in Dortmund. And the closest I've ever been to a BIG named celebrity was that my mom went to high school with Tom Hanks... in which she never had a class with him tho...

Met and talked a bit with John Dobson (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Dobson_(astronomer)), inventor of the Dobsonian telescope. He called my dad a "silly goose".
I also know a guy who might be very famous in the future (college athlete).

I told this before on here a few years ago.
Back in 77 I went to Erics in Liverpool to watch the Clash and assorted others play a gig. To cut a long story short we went out for a couple of pints with Joe Strummer and ended up back in his hotel room (Liverpool Adelphi) smoking spliff all night. My girlfriend and I slept on his bed. So I got to sleep in Joe Strummers bed. :2thumbsup:
A really top bloke. Shame he passed away so young.
In the early 80s I was seconded to work in the Turkish Baths in Bradford next door to the Alhambra theatre, we used to get all sorts in. By far the funniest was Les Dawson, we couldn't do any work as we were all laughing like drains all the time.
Another top bloke.
Oh and my ex-wife once ran into Bernie Winters. :laugh4:
oh yes! When I was little, Evel Knievel gave me candy when I was little...

My dad SWEARS he saw Stephen King once walking after a Red Sox game had ended... I saw "him" too and don't believe it. It's still a topic of argument.
I've talked to Sal Paolantonio (ESPN reporter) a few times. He visited my school (well, class really) once and gave a presentation. Since I was one of the few people in the audience that actually followed sports, I spoke up a lot and talked a bit afterwards. Fast-forward about two years, and he's giving a lecture at our local library. I ask him a question and he actually says he remembers me from that one school visit one time before he answers it. That was pretty cool.
My parents saw Jorge Guinzburg (a commedian) at the Barcelona airport years ago.
Jorge Guinzburg died yesterday :shame: Rest in Peace.

You've met me, why da heck are you still trying to find names unheard ?
:smoking:
Not me, but my cousin is a teacher in Ireland and she used to tutor Bono's kid (the daughter with Leukemia). So she met Bono and stuff.
Probably not known outside Belgium but wth:
I met Arno when I was on holiday in Oostende
I once saw Axl Peleman peeing against a church.
My mother used to be a freind of the mother of Zorah (some wierd chick that thinks she's a dj)
And my father used to work with the father of Andrea Croonenberghs.
And I used to have gym with Jelle Vossen (soccer player).
And last week I saw Stijn Meuris having trouble with the parking ticket machine.
I think that's it.

Ah!
I finally thought of someone other than the John Major lookalike who i've met!
The one, the only, Captain Jean Luc Picard!
Well, okay, it was the actor Patrick Stewart, but as a trekkie, i loved it. He was at a Huddersfield Town game, i was there for some reason that i no longer remember. Met him as he was leaving. I was quite happy for a few days after that.

I didn't know that Jean Luc was a Terriers fan, although coming from Mirfield it would make sense.
I once met me...I almost fainted...
Almost forget but I also met someone more famous (also somewhat known outside Belgium?), Kim Clijsters.
I know her cousin well.

Years back I was walking out of a convenience store in Hanover, MA and literally walked into Marvin Haggler, bumped right into him - idiot high school kid not looking where I was going.
A few years later I working as a security guard at the Hynes Convention Center in Boston during major renovations of the place. Because of this, anytime someone used the elevator, a security guard and a construction elevator operator had to be present. One day a Caspar Weinberger and his wife, who was in a wheelchair, showed up for a book fair to promote some book she had written. Rode up in the elevator while the elevator operator, being a solid union Democrat harangued Weinberger about how much money Reagan was blowing on star wars (SDI). Weinberger not only was really short, he was bow-legged as well; made him look about 5'2".
And at my graduation from the University of London last Monday I met Princess Ann who's the Chancellor of the university. Doffed my cap, bowed, said "Yer Highness", she said "congratulations", and I walked off stage.
Two friends of mine in high school had famous fathers. One was the producer of the Bond movies (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0933865/). I actually got to go to the London premier of Goldeneye, which was fun. The other was a senior member of the PLO (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bassam_Abu_Sharif). I was good friends with his son, Omar, for many years, which was interesting because I'm Jewish. A few other minor celebrities went to my high school, but I did not know them personally. I also went to college with one of Martin Scorsese's daughters (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0131762/), though I only met her once. In college, my fraternity threw a party for Michael Bay (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000881/), who was an alum of our chapter. He acted like a complete jerk, though, and I have disliked him ever since. The movie connections continue with the father of one of my fraternity brothers, who was a long-time Hollywood producer (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0011407/), mainly on the Pink Panther films.
Other random 'celebrities' I have met:
Mika Häkkinen (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mika_H%C3%A4kkinen)
David Coulthard (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Coulthard)
John Browne (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Browne%2C_Baron_Browne_of_Madingley)
I have heard many dozens of other famous personages speak at various venues, but that doesn't seem to count for the purposes of this post. It's also common for me to see prominent US politicians and pundits since I work across the street from the White House, but I haven't met any personally. Dick Cheney's motorcade did make my take-out sushi get warm once in law school. :furious3:
The best celebrity encounter stories I know are from my best friend in college. He's hotboxed a car with Ani Difranco and bailed Rosario Dawson out of jail.

I saw our king walking not 3yards from me!
And i had college from quite a few top politicians of our country.
And when I was small, we met Bavo Claes at the beach.
