So what do "phalangitai deuteroi, pantadapoi, and pheraspidai" mean? Obviously the two former and machimoi are meant to represent lower class members of the phalanx, but what exactly do these names mean?

Also what does "pheraspidai" mean? I understand is has something to do with shields, especially as it is meant to represent one form of the hypaspists. But, my greek knowledge being close to minimal, I don't know what it actually means together.

Thanks in advance!

Deuteroi=second, secondary
pantodapoi=of mixed origin, from all over the place
pheraspides= shieldbearing
machimoi="able to fight"

P.S. if it is pheraspidai in the mod (dunno, can't check now), it is a grammatical mistake; the Plural ending of pheraspis is pheraspides.

Pheraspidai has been corrected to Pheraspides in the game except for the voice mod. It will be corrected though... sort of.

Pheraspides were originally concepted as Hypaspistai in assault gear (hence the invented name); however, further research has determined that there was a third component in the elites - a sort of bastard child of a threeway between phalangites, peltastai, and hypaspistai. Essentially, the Pheraspides are the non-phalangite Peltastai, but different from the skirmisher Peltastai that wield the thureos. So in EB 1.1 expect a change.

Confused? You should be.

Phalangitai deuteroi = Second (class) phallangites
Pantodapoi= From all places literally "born anywhere"
Pheraspidai= Those who carry aspis shield, and yes it should be pheraspides.

That sounds interesting indeed. Can't wait for my 1.1 Makedonian campaign! Will there be a third elite unit, or will you change existing Pheraspides / Hypaspistai (Hypaspides?)?

The intent is to change the Pheraspides, but I don't know how far we'll get. At the least a name change and description change; at the most a slight model change, but that depends on if we can get anyone willing to do it and whether we actually do decide to do it.
