Waras Dirie womens rights ambassador for the UN dissapeared recently in Brussels and turned up a few days later.

Apparently all was based on a misunderstanding. But then she changed her story:

She never mentioned the kidnapping to the Brussels police and they didn't notice any injuries. She told the police (and the press) she was glad that they found her. A day later she was in the hospital WITH injuries talking about how racist the Brussels police is:

Though there are records of a police officer driving Dirie around looking for her hotel. Really the treatment any prostitute would get from the police.

My hypothetic version of the 'kidnapping':
Dirie wanted a drink that ended up being on a full blown alcohol trip.
She admitted before that she has a problem with alcohol. Austrian newspapers reported about other short dissapearances of Dirie. She was approached in a bar by a local. And finally, at first she was very secretive but was firm on the fact that nothing happened to her.

She realised that she missed some important meetings (for example with Conoleza Rice) and invented a story. Just like a child would. Once stuck with the story, she had to discredit the police because they were investigating her new story.

Such a person isn't fit to be an ambassador whatever her acheavements have been and whatever her 'expertise' is. Get treatement and then start over as a role model.

What are your opinions?

When you're in a position like she is, Womens Rights ambassador for the UN, you can't have 'bad days' on a scale like this. She should just quietly resign now before it gets blown out of proportion *cough* Spitzer! *cough*

According to some sources I've read, she isn't even an ambassador for the UN anymore, she still uses the title though, but works for her own foundation now.

Anyhow, it's definitely someone who can't stand Belgian Beer~

She IS a brave woman but you can't act like this as a rolemodel. I don't even think less of here for her problem with alcohol. A lot of people started drinking to repress far less.

What I do have a problem with is that she acts as if she doesn't ave a problem and blames and accuses everybody else when her problems catch up with her. She choses to live in the 'spotlights', then make sure you can give a good example.

She is rolemodel enough I think, her problem only makes her determination melt in the mouth. Brave woman, I am willing to give special people some special treatment.
