Wargamers

Is anyone around here still an old school tabletop wargamer? Personally, I love naval wargames, favourites being Jutland, Russo Japanese, and any dreadnought/pre dreadnought games.

Oh, also, probably my biggest favourite are WW1 wargames.

I've been working on modifying Mordheim rules to work with a real WWII setting.
Other than that, I sometimes play DBA.

Well...
I have a submarine hunter game where one side are destroyers and the other are the submarines.
Then my dad has a World War Two North Africa Campaign game. It is massive and missing a LOT of pieces. Tried playing it once but many things were and are missing.
There is also a World War One game set on the Western Front that me and my dad attempted until he said that when he played with his dad, they didn't get no farther than one or two hexes here and there.

I've put my Total War games on Ebay as I have made a decision to move to tabletop wargaming. Partly this is due to wanting to involve my 8 year old son and also partly because I want a slower game against a human opponent.

I recently visited 2 wargames clubs near me and like the one that is furthest away. I was invited to a members home last night to refight the battle of Nicopolis from 1396. That was fun although the rules and setting up take a little work. It was nice to hear troop names I am familiar with from Total War. They use the DBMM ruleset.

I am more interested in the classical period so I won't always get to fight the battles I want but it is still fun fighting out of period.

Ebay has been a good source of painted troops and I am building up quite a collection of painted units (pre-painted as I am useless).

My beef against DBA is that, while the rules are simple enough to learn, there's virtually no variety. An Early Roman Republic unit of Blades is the same as a unit of Blades in the Hundred Years War.

Sadly, I do not have the patience to learn the really complex wargames. That, and nobody plays them in my area. So I just stick to Warhammer and WH40k.

Warhammer Fantasy Elitist here :tongue: However I haven't played in a while. I do occasionally play a game of Shako, which is a rule-set for Napoleonic Gaming.

Old WFB and 40K player here, but it's been a while. I'm probably at least a couple of editions behind on the rulebooks.
