View Full Version : Anyone know of a strat-map mod?

Okay, so here's the deal: the only computer I have is a laptop from late 2004, and whenever I try to play EB the damn thing heats up so much I'm afraid it's about to melt or burst into flames. I never had this problem with vanilla RTW, and it's not nearly so bad on the battlefield (except when I try to play with huge units, which stinks because I love those bigass butcherfests with thousands of people trying like hell to kill each other... but I digress.) The problem is clearly something to do with the strategic map. So, is there a mod out there that simplifies the graphics for the strategic map or something? I mean, I love EB, but I would rather not risk a massive electrical fire.

To begin with there's some settings you could tone down. Resolution? Campaign map shadows?

Wow, fast response...

Well, of course I turned off the campaign map shadows, but I didn't think of turning down the resolution. My laptop tends to bitch at me when I do that. Still, I'll try.

i guess also you'll have to accept the script is huge and does make massive demands on the older puters...just takes a bit of getting used to that EB is slower than RTW. worth it though!

It would be worth it if I just had a slow strat-map, but I don't think that turning my laptop into a significant fire hazard is worth it.

Anyway, the damn thing won't let me turn the resolution down below 1024x768. I'll try the pref.txt, but I don't think its gonna work.

Edit: yeah, that didn't work; the strat-map won't go below 1024x768.
