View Full Version : Query - King's Purse

I am a little confused as to how this concept works. My understanding was that it is a flat sum of money given to each faction every turn, on top of their actual income from ports, farming, taxes etc. Thinking this, I decided to mod my game (yet again) to give a huge King's Purse income to every faction, enabling everyone (I hoped) to build huge armies of excellent troops, making for some more interesting battles.

In practice, although I now have a huge income from the very start and can build continuosly from every settlement, it doesn't seem to have made much difference to the AI armies; they seem to be about the same size as before. Obviously this makes the game boringly easy and I have thus reset the King's Purse values to their original values.

I am a little confused; does King's Purse income only affect the player and not the AI? Or is it just that the AI is incompetent at using it?

It affects both, but in the early game (up until turn 15 or so) it makes little differences, because factions cannot recruit more units than they could normally and buildings remain dirt cheap.

In the late game, where an enemy has an actual empire, it might make them more difficult to beat, but don't count on the silly AI to actually do so

Wow, thanks for the quick response, FactionHeir. I hadn't thought about the limitations on the number of units that can be recruited, I guess since the AI doesn't blitz the rebels at the start like I do it would only have a very limited number of provinces to recruit from.

I'm thinking I may instead go down the road of making the high tech units cheaper than low tech units, in the hope that the AI will spam them instead of the militia junk it does now. I'm not so much interested in making the game harder as such, more in making the AI field more interesting armies to fight.

You can always make higher buildings unable to train lower units or train them in limited quantity.

Quick question, FactionHeir

How do you make the links in your sig say what you want them to say? I'm still using the actual links and then next to it I have to write what I'd rather them say.

I ask this here rather than start my own thread so that more people will be able to see the answer.

thanks!
