Return of the Sword Dojo

Over the past few days I've noticed in the forum index that in 5 of 6 times I checked, our very own Sword Dojo has had more visitors than any of the other TW forums. In that one instance where it didn't have the most, it was merely one visitor behind the M2TW forum. :2thumbsup: Heck, one time when I looked, there were more visitors to the Sword Dojo than even the Tavern.

I'm guessing that the campaign stories (Drisos and Sasaki) are capturing an audience and getting some interest going again. Great job to all the Sword Dojo regulars for reinvigorating this ancient forum! :bow:

Yeah, I'd noticed we've had a lot more visitors here the last week or so. I too think we have Drisos and Sasaki to thank for that, at least in part. :bow:

Heh, me too, I've been thinking about writing a Sengoku story - combining the campaign story aspects concerning warfare and the 'Musashi'-esque elements for the individual glory and honour! (and downfalls, of course)

Now I just need to find the time and actually begin writing, instead of doing it all in my head!

I like to write those stories on campaigns, but I rarely have time for such projects. I'll write more when I can. ~:)

Yes, I am enjoying skimming over these mammoth campaigns, everyone likes a good aar!

Shogun is a great game, and even when people sometimes stray to other titles, they'll often come back to the original one.

I haven't played Shogun too many times since it first game out, but now and then I return to it after years of slashing-and-hacking through the rest of the Total War games. This time I'm having my ass handed to me, something that is quite foreign to me in any of the other games. Imagawa+ bad planning = disaster.

Even the field battles are more challenging, as they tend to cause more casualties to my side as well. Mass routs aren't so common as in Medieval, and at least early in the game each unit is needed for victory. I can only imagine how bloody a pvp campaign of Shogun would be.

It's been a while since half a stack has made such a difference. Nor have the cheap end units been as useful, or a risk when the enemy controls them.

So yes, I check the threads now and then, maybe a bit more often than normal.

At the moment I'm playing through a campaign in the Samurai Warlords mod for MTW, this is the closest to Shogun you can get without actually playing Shogun.

Indeed, returning to the roots seems to have become popular. I also re-installed good old STW some time ago but encountered those flashing background and crashing problems like so many others have... And after searching for solutions for quite some time I got too frustrated and dropped it. I Did manage to fight two small battles as Shimazu before the game completely froze though. And I must say, even those 2 battles were worth all the hassle with installation and problem research. Such nostalgia... man if the game worked :shame:

If a newer operating system is causing the problem right click on the shortcut chose compatability mode and choose windows 98, ive solved a few problems i was havng with older games by doing that.

Actually, I've found the best way (IMHO) to deal with such problems is to have a second HD with Win98se installed on it. I have close to a dozen "older" games that just require too much messing around with XP to make it worthwhile......

And truth-be-known, I actually have four HD....WinXP.....Win2000pro......Win98se....and Linux.

Anyways.......this setup works like a charm with absolutely no problems:yes:

In a pinch, you can partition a single drive into multiple ones, but all the partitions have to have the same file system (eg. FAT32) and since WinXP & 2000 work better with the NTFS system, and 98 uses the FAT32, was why I went to individual drives.....
