War then nothing

Ive been in a terrible war with the Egypts. It started at sea and I nearly lost it, but in someway I manage to defeat the Egypts armada and was ready to launch an army in to Egypts sea provinces next turn. But next turn the Egypt got another ship ready to fight, but that wasnt any problem cause I could attack a province anyway and when I was about to fight the ship a message appeared and said somthing like this:

This ship belongs to Egypt who is neutral to you.

??????

I was in the hard war and when im ready to launch an attack Im neutral.

I never send any emissary cause I only have 2 who is trying to get alliances with England and Poland. And I never got a message that Egypt had sent an emissary to me asking for a ceasefire.

Can anyone explain this or is it a bug.

i think wars can end automatically if you have no borders or ships next to the enemy lands

No land borders and no ships in the same sea zone means the end of war.
