Hey guys!
I'm already sorry for posting this question here, since I've already posted it in the technical forum, but I would really like to know:
Is it possible to play M2TW in windowed mode?
I couldn't find it as a setting and it's not in the medieval2_preferences.cfg file either!
Thanks in advance! :2thumbsup:
I am not too sure of the exact letters to add but for RTW you right-clicked on the desktop shortcut and selected properties.
Then you add a series of letters to the end of the location text. Can somebody please post a screenshot of windowed mode as I am unsure as to what it would look like.

I haven't tried this myself, but I've read elsewhere that adding -w to command should do it.
If you right click on the icon and choose properties you can edit the command used to launch the game.
As I say though, I haven't tested this so no guarantees...

Just tried it out and it doesn't work, you get a fatal error and the game won't start.

I'm starting to suspect it's just not possible... :(
it is possible! just found out that you have to edit the medieval.preferences in C:\Program Files\SEGA\Medieval II Total War\ and add "windowed = true" in the video section. at least it worked for me

:jawdrop:
OH LAWD!! It works!
Thank you very much, kind sir!
Indeed, the windowed = true edit works for me as well :beam:
Funny thing, though... I have to edit the config file every time I start M2TW!
If I boot the system and use Notepad to look at a fresh copy of the file, that line windowed = true has disappeared.
Too weird! Anyone else find this to be true?
Guys,
Sorry to be such a noob, but how do I get the line "Delyn's Avatar" to NOT appear in my forum postings? I've looked all around the User CP and cannot find a switch :inquisitive:

Yeah I can confirm this. Doesn't matter much to me anymore though, I decided to keep playing fullscreen, because scrolling in windowed mode is quite annoying.. well.. nearly impossible actually.

To me it's just an avatar, nothing seems wrong.

Dude look at the users menu there are 6 at the top oh this page saying
USER CP CHAT SITE TOOLS SEARCH QUICK LINKS LOG OUT .
click on the User cp link. then look for EDIT AVATAR
click in that link .
and by the AVATAR right side there will be a bubble saying . * do not use an avatar *
hope this is what youre looking for :)
Shadebeard – thanks for the confirmation. I still choose windowed mode because I use 2 monitors and it’s just easier getting from one to the other in that mode. It’s really no big deal to overwrite the config file every time.
eddy – thanks for the reply but I think Shadebeard covered my “noob” dilemma. I think the link “Delyn’s Avatar” only appears on my system. I DO want an avatar to show, but thought the “Delyn’s Avatar” link was showing up for all who read the post. Thanks for trying to point me in the right direction though.

Delyn - How do you cope with the scrolling issue? Do you use your arrow keys to scroll, or just aim your mouse carefully? I find it quite annoying to play windowed mode now, because of this issue.
Is not using the arrow keys actually faster than scrolling using the mouse? Though I tend to use both at the same time.

Yeah in campaign map it works to use arrow keys for scrolling, but in battle I like to use hotkeys for coordinating my army and such..

The config file is overwritten everytime you start a new game but making it "read only" (by right clicking and choosing Properties) should remedy that..
Tristan de Castelreng – THANK YOU for that idea! I never thought to do that!!
Shadebeard – The truth is I Alt-Tab to whatever program I am using on the 2nd monitor because I too get the scrolling effect when trying to simply drag the mouse from M2TW to the other monitor.
I guess I could do that without windowed mode, but I just like having the task bar there. I usually am running the PDF version of the manual (remember… noob here!), the spreadsheet I’m using to try and keep track of some of this stuff (which I’m going to ask all you veterans about one of these days) , Firefox to access totalwar.org and other sites and some of the unit stat, building stat downloads I’ve done.
I know this is quite a bump, but there's no sense to creating another thread for a topic that already exists.
Is there another way to do this? Putting "windowed = true" under the video preferences didn't do anything for me. It just starts up as it usually does.
I'm on Vista Home Premium btw.
Pardon the double post, but I got it working! =D
Turns out there were TWO preference files. The real one was hid by Vista. >_>
