Just like the topic says .. I can't play multiplayer cause everytime I join the other players have BI v1.5 and I have v1.6(I have Gold Edition)..
So I would like to know where are other players who have BI v1.6???
I know I played long time ago multyplayer games once or twice a week and there where a lot of people who had the same version as i did..
but now ...

costum battles against AI are getting kind of .. you know .. boring :shame:

Moved to the multiplayer forums :burnout:

Might I request more details on the problem Ibn-Khaldun - are games not appearing in the lobby, or are they there but you cannot join them (and/or receive an error message when trying to do so)?

If the former is the case, your firewall may be to blame, not letting R:TW past its systems. You will need to allow "RomeTW.exe" access to the internet. Sadly each firewall is different, so cross-application instructions cannot really be provided. Sorry ~:(

Shutting off your firewall and/or anti virus does not affect your ability to join games. Your firewall would only affect other players 'seeing' your games when you are the Host.

The error message you are getting is because you have a 'version conflict' with the games you are trying to join.
You have Version 1.6 the games you are trying to join are Version 1.5

The difference between a player with Rome TW trying to join a game that is RomeTW/Babarian Invasion.
The same applies with MTW player trying to join a game MTW/Viking Invasion

No, I get the same error. Even after re-installing the game it didn't work. But I did not try the fire wall thing, ill do that.

BTW, I tried a fresh install THEN patched it up, v1.5 and then 1.6 respectiveley. Still nothing..just says everyone has "BI version 1.5" even though I wasn't using BI at the time...just plain old RTW.

I thought BI only went up to 1.5? Besides people still play BI?
Okay wait I purchased the Gold edition a few months back because my cd was broken, and it gave me my RTW all patched up, but when I went to BI it went back down to 1.4. This may be along the same lines.
I still don't think that many play BI:idea2:

RTW Anthology using Gamespy I found :

RTW Vanilla is the Gold 1.5 version.
BI installs as 1.3, but has a 1.6 patch (which may or may not already be applied IIRC somewhere it may be the version number that's incorrectly displayed)

I had problems with multi-player when using 1.5 + bugfixer, the data files were marked as incompatible.

My solution was to uninstall completely (involves finding the hidden virtual store files in vista and removing to); then there were always compatible games.

So from what I saw, using plain RTW 1.5 was the version used mostly. I did see some BI 1.6's or 1.3's I can't remember exactly, but they were in minority.

Probably some mod left over, or not having the Vanilla RTW 1.5 is the issue.

Try installing RTW 1.5 Gold edition which most ppl seem to use on Gamespy.

I think it's lying to you. Because your program is Barbarian Invasion RTW-BI.exe, it probably thinks the other clients are also called Barbarian Invasion, when actually those ppl play RTW-1.5.

As someone else pointed out, it doesn't make sense, as BI was RTW 1.3 and patched to 1.6, and did not have a 1.5 release.

SOLVED the not compatible problem with multiplayer! :2thumbsup: I have the Anthology Edition that includes Rome Total War and the 2 official expansion packs. This may apply to the gold edition as well.

Install only ROME Total War if you want to play multiplayer. My disk has the RTW 1.5 patch already applied.

If I install the expansions Barbarian Invasion and Alexander and then launch RTW or the expansions, I get NOT COMPATIBLE for every multiplayer game in the lobby. It says your your exe: Barbarian Invasion v1.6 and the host exe: barbarian Invasion v1.5. Just exactly like the original poster's screenshot (Ibn-Khaldun).

Alternatively, you can install just rome total war in one directory and the gold edition in another directory. Launch one directory if you want multiplayer and the other for mods or single player.

Hope this helps for anyone who has the Anthology Edition or the Gold Edition =).
