View Full Version : Query - Wait for 1.3 before beginning M2:TW?

EDIT: 1.4, not 1.3!!

Hi. I've explored all that I could explore in R:TW. As a result, I'm planning on beginning with M2:TW. However, I've seen that there are a lot of epic bugs and crashes. Hopefully a majority of them will be fixed in a patch...

I've seen that 1.4 is coming up sometime soon. Should I begin playing M2TW immediately, or wait till 1.4 comes out? How long has this patch been in the making?

How soon will the next patch be out?

As far as we know there are no more patches for M2TW. The state its in now is most likely its final state. The patch in the works is for Kingdoms so I would suggest playing rather than waiting.

As mentioned in another thread we have been waiting 6 months for the Kingdoms patch. I would find this very funny had it not been me waiting.

Let me get this straight:

Even if I wait for the new patch for Kingdoms, my original game of M2:TW will have zero changes?

How different is the original and the expansion? If I mod something in the original, will it still be reasonably applicable in the expansion?

The Kingdoms expansion is 4 new mini campaigns that are totally separate from the M2TW grand campaign. It doesn't affect the original game in any way.

If you want to mod you will need to mod each and every campaign in Kingdoms separately as well as the original game.

Hm. I still don't understand one thing.

1. How buggy is the original game?

2. In R:TW, the expansion not only had all the qualities of the original but also had a few extras in terms of coding that allowed swimming units and night fights. How is the situation for M2:TW?

3. Will the upcoming patch change anything on the original game? I read that there's 600+ bugs in total-will the coming patch fix any bugs in the original game as well? Or is the patch/bugs only on the expansion?

Thats 3 things!

There are people who play the original game and haven't noticed a single problem and there are others who find it very buggy. To me its very buggy. It is the buggiest game I have owned but its true that I haven't owned many like some others.

As for RTW:BI it didn't add night battles or swimming to the original, this was only available in the BI campaign. The BI expansion added nothing to the original RTW game other than a very bad patch (patch 1.3). Night battles were available in the original by modding.

I repeat. As far as we know the upcoming patch will not change anything to the original game. We have heard nothing from the developers except that it will be for Kingdoms. Maybe, just maybe this out-of-the-world wait will give us a surprise.

To clarify, there aren't any significant crash bugs or other serious problems with running MTW2 version 1.2/1.3 AFAIK. The types of bugs we're talking about are gameplay bugs that tend to make campaigns rather easy, or irritating but rare bugs that are annoying, but not campaign breaking, and there are quite a number of mods to take care of those issues.

Information on the next patch is actually pretty thin. As announced it's only to address some of the more obvious issues in Kingdoms and will do nothing for vanilla.

Well, thats one side of the argument. There are at least 3 crash bugs that I'm aware off. The reinforcement+wooden wall crash is well enough documented.

Also it seems players using intel chips experience a relatively stable game whereas AMD owners often complain of occasional or even regular unexplained crashes.

As for bugs I would not consider them rare but abundant. Just check the bug thread to get the idea. Perhaps not game breaking but definately frustrating.

I'm not disputing that there are still bugs, and some of them are extremely frustrating, but IMHO the average user is going to be more annoyed by the pathetic AI, the constant pathing problems, and the advisor who just won't stay turned off. I've played the game for not quite a year now and had two crashes (Admittedly I know about and avoid the wooden walls bug), both of which could've been related to other tasks I was doing in the background. That's exactly why I call the crash bugs insignificant.

The game is about as stable as games get. The gameplay bugs aren't, IMHO, as frustrating as some of the deliberate features, like the disconnected strategic and diplomatic AI.

There are a lot of good reasons not to buy MTW2 and especially Kingdoms, but I don't think bugs are one of them. My 2 cents. :2thumbsup:

Oh my, there is a reinforcement-wooden-wall-bug crash? And I was just getting used to the 1 in 30 CTDs upon loading a field battle. (I think there are no bugs - just Microsoft "features".) I guess after Darklands ver 7, I am inured to such. Pathfinding is a problem at times. I could pretend that it is just a realistic command control problem, but deep down I know it's Bill Gates' fault.

While I will agree that there are some bugs in this game (M2TW) , I won't go as far as call them abundant... Most are hardly noticeable unless they are pointed to you (like the renowned shield bug...)

As to chips-related crashes, I play M2TW both an on dual-core AMD and a dual-core INTEL and have yet to see any crashes...

As I said we all have different opinions. I do in fact notice them and I have no-one pointing them out to me.
