What are the exact functions of these buildings? Is their ONLY purpose to enable the production of the more expensive knights?

Anyone know of a website that gives all details of building info? Are there any titles derived from these buildings? The building docs on this website are incomplete.

And, of course, the manual is incomplete ;(
