View Full Version : SA question
A question-
why SA move at the same speed as the YS?
they wear almost no armor (1) but the YS wear much more armor (3),even the YA that wear cheep and light armor (2) move much faster.

perhaps they don't work out enough, just pulling strings isn't good stamina training

its when they run they move faster, and believe me they do, if you chase a unit of SA with YS, the SA will get far enough away to fire many times

all units move relatively the same if you move them with the march command; this is because it is assumed you've organized your army formations and want to have them move uniformly along.
if you have them march quickly or run (both are the same thing) then the speeds of each unit type are different.
Ah, that's interesting. I just looked at a tactics page which states the running speed of SAs as 10, while the running speed of WM, ND, musks, ARbs and Yas is 12.
This page also lists the running speed of Nags at 10, which doesn't sound right at all, maybe we need a definitive answer on running and marching speeds.
I tested it-
NAG slowest.
YS,SA same speed.
YA,WM,ND,AR,MS same speed.
CA,HC same speed.
YC fastest.
i don't get it,YS wear full armor and long spears, how can SA be as slow as the YS?

So...this is certianty becuase these are the offical values...
look at the unit values at my site here:
http://terazawa.totalwar.org/tactics/values.htm
These are in order of running values...
YC with 24
CA with 20
HC with 20
Guns with 12
ND with 12
WM with 12
YA with 12
YS with 10
SA with 10
Nag with 10 (this is probably a mistake, nagis are the slowest)
That's it.

I think SA-s aren't as fit as YS-s. Perhaps their coach haven't been so hard and strict... http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif

Most likely have a pouch of arrows on your back, and the fact that SA don't train the legs as much as a YS, would be possibility!

Archers have a lot of equipment to manage.
Bows, quivers, arrows, swords, rosen for the bow, bow repair kit, C-rations, condoms, etc.
Everybody else except the CA have one main weapon and in the case of YA, YS, YC speed is sometimes a component of that weapon use.
There should be no need for an archer to run fast to meet or chase the ememy--he has a bow and arrow to reach out an touch someone, which is his primary objective anyway, and even after he runs out of arrows, his expensive bow is probably not considered disposable so he lugs it along. Besides, in real life, he might recover more arrows, and be back in business. He was an archer first and a swordsman second, and as such not considered a pursuit troop. Just some personal thoughts to help rationalize the slower speed of SA movement.
I'm not so sure the the musketeers and arquebusiers should be all that fast either, because unlike modern rifles those hunks of wood and iron were large and heavy, and of course the gunners also carried powder, lead, wadding, cleaning equipment, C-rations, and condoms. I don't know about Japanese musketeers, but European gunners also carried wood and iron gun rests because these guns were just to heavy to aim and shoot for very long. Anyway just more food for thought.
Cheers
