So i've been in the year 240 with my pontos campaign. I have 3 city's: Amaseia, Sinope and Trapezous, and i've been slowly building up my cities, not waging any wars, and a had a decent size army in Amaseia, just in case (i had to use it a few times becouse KH keeps attacking sinope).
I payed some money to the Seleucids and Armenians, and so hoping our alliances will last.
By 241 BC Seleucia started to lose it's war badly against the Ptolys. I gave them 80.000 mnai via cheat so they would start to turn the tide of the war, but nothing happened. And so the Ptolys besieged Mazaka with a full stack, the last outpost between my country and the yellow death.
I wanted a buffer province between me and the Ptolys, so i attacked their huge elite army, and defeated them with 66% loss of my army. In the same turn, the AS brings 3!!!! full stacks toward mazaka, and the first thing they do is attack my depleated and exausted army that just saved them!:furious3: . And now their not focusing at counter attacking at the ptolys but at conquering asia minor with the money i gave them!. Thankfully i kept about 50.000 mnai so i can keep at least some resistance against them, but they got almost all of the mercs, and i really don't see how i'm going to defend against them.
I allied with the ptolys. I hope this will help me.
But this damn AI,:wall:
Since when do you backstab your allies like this?!?:whip:
Anyone alse had a similar experience?

Recently in my Mac campaign. I was allied with the Romans and Getai so I had my back cleared, focusing my 2 armies to beat Pontos and AS. My kingdom stretched up to Dalminion, while the Romans had Segestica. I thought they had enough to do with the Gauls, but apparently they found it amusing to besiege Dalminion out of the blue. So right now I'm sending a diplomat to ally with Aedui, and then to ask Getai if they could be so kind and attack the Romans.
The Epirotes called a ceasfire with me after the Romans stabbed me, and later allied with me, and I gave them 100000 mnai so they could shake things up in Italy. (They lost Taras and have been holding Capua since 30 years back or so, the Romans besieging it every other turn but never capturing it.)

What are you complaining about, the AI played you for a fool and is kicking your ass. Sucker.

Rule Number 1: Obey all rules.
Rule Number 2: Never trust anybody. Especially not your allies.

True that...
You wouldn't believe what's happening right now... it's around 225 bc, and alliances get broken and made every turn. In Asia minor there is a war between me, seleuica, ptolys, kh, macedonia, epeiros, armenia and the getai (they are at war with each other also). It's really wild, but once again i was betrayed by my allies the ptolys:furious3: .
This time i was prepared though:laugh4:

The worst is when you give an AI faction a pile of money, trade rights, map info, the works; in exchange for alliance - and the following turn they blockade one of your ports. :furious3:

It's actually quite an impressive display of intelligent AI, since that was the precise correct moment to perform the backstab. Well done, Seleukeia!
It's balanced by the stupidity of the AI not using the money to fight Aiguptos instead, which would have been massively more prudent.
I've been backstabbed in every game: the ugliest cast was in ROP; I was bab-ilu's king and I had allied myself with kush, lydia, parsa, mada, and the sabaeans. guess what? they all turned on me all at once! in one F******** turn!! If I only took a picture with all those armies coming from every which way...you'ld be horrified.
so pontos is lucky, you had 50000 mnai, I had fewer denarii (they've got to change this to shekels or something (Bab-ilu equivalent to denarius); think around 20000 over 20 provinces and 3 stacks all understrength from constant campaigns in kmt and kyrene (who had turned on me 2 turns earlier)-now that's a real fight.
well sorry for the head bight, but you wanted to know...:beam:
I should be known as restitutor orbis in babylonian for what happened next....

Yeah the AI definetly has it's moments. Right now i managed to create a coalition against the ptolys. I'm allied or neutral with Seleucia, Macedon, Epeiros, and KH, but the Getai chose to ally themselves with the Ptolemaic Empire instead:whip:.
It's really amazing what's happening in Asia Minor now though. So many nations fighting, i'll post a screenshot if i'll learn how ( i have vista), it's a really incredible campaign, really the best fun i ever had since playing Carthage the first day i bought RTW all those years ago!:clown:

Playing as the Maks, just offered AS a ceasfire in return for them giving me Ipsos, their western-most town. They agreed! :idea2: Either the AI has some hidden brains,or it was just plain luck, because it was a good decision for them to make. They used the garrison to besiege rebel Galatia, and joined me in an anti-Ptoleis alliance.I guess medium difficulty does make diplomatic moves such as this possile...

I have yet to play a game where the AI doesn't screw me over with a poorly (or brillantly depending on your point of view) timed attack/full out assault. I now try to plan for that in my campaigns. Lately though, I've only played factions with relatively safe homelands. When I am better, I will try something like KH or Pontus.
@ Anubis88: You sir, are a braver man then I. Best of luck with your campaign.

The only difference in vista is your alternate program files dir, located in c:\<your username>\appdata\local\virtual store\program files\ et cetera. Your settings files and tgas folder are located there. Or you could just use fraps.
