Hey. First of all, I'm new here http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif. Second, I just downloaded the demo(95 megs.... Ouch) and it's awesome. It convinced me, and I'm going out to get the full game today or tommorow.... However, in the full game, at the end of a battle does it tell you your enemies and your casaulties? It doesn't in the demo, because the only battles are the tutorial.

Yes in the full game it will tell you the amount of casaulties. How many were inflicted and and how many were inflicted upon you as well. It also goes into the individual stats of each unit where you can find out how much honor they gained, how many men they killed, and how many men they lost. - Sori

Yeah what Sori said... but the way honor is allocated will make you wonder if you need to go back to calculus class http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/confused.gif

Just because a unit has alot of kills doesn't mean it goes up in honor, go figure.

not enough at least... http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/wink.gif

but then again, i'm the last one to talk about not sleeping... lol

but to get back on topic here, jas, after you patch up to current version you will also have battle logs- with stats for every individual soldier, so it's like 3 days of reading and analyzing after each battle... hehe, enjoy...

Hmmm. It's slightly tangential, but I wonder whether there should be additional 'pursuit' casualties after fleeing.

Why? Well, consider the really really big "horde" battles. Due to engine limitations, most likely, neither side can field more than 16 units. Realistically, it's unlikely that more than 24 or so will enter a battle; 8 reinforcements is a bit on the high side. However, there can be 40+ units per side in a "horde" battle, meaning that in a tactical (non-autoresolved) fight casualties may be very, very low for the size of the fight. In fact, in a strange scenario (like cav archers against ashigaru on plains), the defending "horde" may immediately withdraw, suffering minimal losses despite the fact that they should arguably take much greater casualties.

Apparently, it is assumed that the rest of the army manages to withdraw in perfect order, with no desertions or stragglers, and that all rear guard action takes place without a hitch.

For those of you that have played, say, "Empires in Arms", you're aware no doubt of the after-battle pursuit rules. One tip in that game is that you cannot afford to be "broken" quickly by the Turks, because they normally are very cavalry heavy, and their cavalry will kill/scatter your troops after the battle is "over".

I'm inclined to think that something could be added like this -- basing losses of routed troops on the sizes of the forces and rankings. This would also help to reduce the "horde makes its last stand" issue since it'd be harder for a horde to be formed... maybe it should be harsher if the defender retreats to a river or mountain province, as well (or maybe not).

Laertes...excellent insight and suggestion! The real problem with the Horde is that tho one may inflict terrible losses upon them in a battle it only affects the handful of units directly met in battle. A general bashing of ALL the groups involved in the total force would put an end to the Pyrhic victory that in the end sees you losing. Further, one might consider that all the Taisho should suffer a loss, not just he who led the fighting group. Or, perhaps, losses should be in direct proportion to the Taisho's ability? (or lack)
(PS: If that quote isn't from King Lear , it should be...LoL)

The AI only gets to place 16 units as is, even though it can have 40-50 in the province. Seems to me we humans are getting a break as is on the battlefield, just rout them and gain honor so you can rout them again.

If the horde didn't happen in the first place then life would be better http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/wink.gif

Black Ship....as you've taken sides against Humanity I can but assume you to be a ...HORDE LOVER! (hehe)

Errr... well not exactly, just that I can beat the AI now at all levels pretty consistently (40/60 on expert though http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/frown.gif) so I'm not in favor of making it any easier.

What I truly want is the "learning" AI the game was supposed to come with, and a horde-less late game.

I know it's been said before, but what we really need is an online campaign game! I am convinced that some form of online campaign is possible. I think the developers are taking some steps towards it with ideas such as the League of Honour, so aybe they are working on it?
