Legion Names were not only used for Legionares right?

Some Roman units before the reforms had the Legion names too? Yes ?

And what about the Hellenic Units? did Hellenic units had legion names or not?ž

Or other faction units?

I am asking this because it is quite easy to implement a name for the unit in the files.. but I am not sure did all factions had some special names for the units or not? (like Hellenic elites etc.)

Thank you for your time!

Legions indeed had been numbered since the republic (consular legions being I-IV) and all other emergency one's being from V to almost infinity. titles (e.g LEGIO XX VALERIA VICTRIX (the bold part)) are mostly late republican onwards)

Auxilia were also numbered, but only from the imperial time onwards, with the units title typically being named cohors+#+region
hellenistic units were named after their taxis or ile commander, as far as I know (e.g Ptelemaios' Taxis)
Assyrians went purely by ethnicity, but I doubt you needed to know that...

We need some help in implementing those names into the game *for legions and + for other factions, I know the trick how to add it but I dont know the historical side..

Can you help? At least with a source?

Thanks!

Will EB team implement some Hellenic or other ''Legion Names'' as if Ibrahim was talking about since I am sure legion names will be in!?

But if there were Hellenic lines like Legion Names why not?

they probably won't; they didn't do so fro EB1, why so for EB2, let alone 1.1. I know it was done for IBFD, but still.

RTW 1.5 doesn't support named legions like BI (i.e. Roma Surrectum has taken 1 edu slot for every legion to make named ones), and I guess M2TW doesn't support it too

ALX.exe does!

I will implement it in ALXEB mod!

Once more!

Does anyone have the knowledge or source how to implement the same tweak for Hellenic Units!?

Like, ''Makedonia'' or ''Alecandria'' insteda of Felix of Italica?!

Anyone?!

As far as I know, there are no names for Hellenic units excepting that in the phalanx we see divisions based on shields - which probably signify their position rather than denoting a whole, independent formation. For example: leukaspides as a levy phalanx, chalkaspides as the regulars, and argyraspides for the veterans/elite.

Would it be wrong if we add names for Macedon Like Silver Shields of Makedonia or Syria etc?!

Ok, can I add the legion names to some non-legionary Roman units.. like Principes?!

beatoangelico

yes, you need to add the legionary_name attribute in the EDU and then specify the names based on province in another files that atm I don't remember  try to look at vanilla BI or IBFD files

Maksimus, you can do whatever you feel like doing.

@abou, that was acctually a question, this is a forum, if Legions indeed had been numbered since the republic than there are quite some units that can be numbered

And, yes, even Hellenic units were named by their commander. I am just here to wait for another answer

I would like Kervanos to be here

Yes it does, I use the named legion feature in Terrae Expugnandae and it uses 1.5 not BI.

LEGIO XX VALERIA VICTRIX
How exactly do you pronounce Legion names?
20th Legion of Valeria Victrix?
20th Legion from Valeria Victrix?

Gebeleisis

valeria victrix is the legions "nick" to say like that
as schools are!

Elementary school 2, "barack obama"(just an example):laugh4:

how is it done then?

Quite simple really:

-First give a unit the legionary_name attirbute in eb\dataexport_descr_units.txt.
-Next, open up descr_regions.txt in eb\data\world\maps\base, and for each region you want to give that unit a name, add in the following line so the entry for the region looks like(example from TE):

Latium
legion: Italica
Rome
romans_scipii
Latins
52 13 198
rome, italy, slaves
5
6

For each region you have to use a different name after legion:
-Then open up eb\data\text\imperial_campaign_regions_and_settlement_names.txt, and at the bottom add in a line like this for every legion name:

{Italica} Italica
You'll also need to delete map.rmw in eb\data\world\maps\base for this to work as well.

I am thinking of using the method that Lusted has described for adding the "legionary name" attribute to certain Pahlavan units, thus marking my armies.

The idea is to develop something like eastern equivalent of "Legio XX Valeria Victrix" by doing "Army I of Sogdiana" or "Army V Blessed by Anahita". My throble is that I do not know a damn about the contemporary parthian language.

Could, please, someone more knowledgable (The Persian Cataphract maybe?) help me with:
- numbering (like First, Second, etc.)
- forms of regional names (like of Sogdiana, of Persis, etc.)
- proper words for army units (equivalent of "legion")
- suggestions of suitable nicknames for Pahlavans armies
i.e. basically the Pahlavans counterparts of what was already done for Romans.:help:

Thank you very much!

(Of course, if I get it to work properly I will share the result with others as another micromod)

Problem with that is that there is no reference to Legio in any text file which leads me to believe the Legio part is hardcoded.

I am a bit confused right now... Have not you said previously that you made it work for some other mod and that it is "quite simple, really"?:inquisitive:

Lusted

In my mod I've basically added it in for RTW using the same system that is in for BI, and I've only done it for Legionary First Cohorts. I never said I'd renamed the Legio part.

Oh, I see now!

I have done a quick test - using your method, I have added a legionary name "Experimental" to akontistai trained in Antiocheia. The result: "Legio I Experimental".

The text "Legio/Number" indeed appears hardcoded :wall: and that detracts a lot of appeal for using that for factions other than romans. Personally I am unsure. Would anybody be interested in having, say, a unit of Agyraspides named "Legio I Nikefora" or a unit of Grivpanvar named "Legio III of Margiana"??? Or is the word "Legio" unacceptable for factions other than roman?
Opinions welcomed.:juggle2:
