Is there any way to use actual Romani units in custom battle?

I'm having to develop some new strategies due to EB's added realism, and I'd rather have some good EB tactics ready before I start a Romani campaign, rather than be forced to essentially go in empty-handed.

And does Karthadastim have access to Spartiatai Hoplitai in campaign mode, like they do in custom battle?

The custom battle roster is broken.

You need to do a search in the unofficial mods section, there's an EDU switcher with an EDU that's custom written for custom battles which restricts units to only those a faction can possibly train. Catch is, to play a campaign after that, you need to EDU switch back to Campaign EDU, otherwise you'll just get a CTD to emphasise the point.

there is a minimod that does what is needed-EDU switch (it also has 1st cohort, and the catch: deadlier javelins, weaker slingers)

I don't use slingers,so that's not a big deal.

*sigh* You know, there's also this folder \eb\mp custom game edu\ you might want to take a look at...
Reading the FAQ isn't exactly banned either.

Yeah, and what on earth is actually broken about the custom battle edu?

I did read the FAQ. Maybe I passed something over, but I didn't see anything regarding the lack of Romani units in there.

Considering that the Romans get by far the most (factional) troops of any faction in the game; you either have been doing something wrong in the campaign, or you tried a custom battle. And it so happens there's a specific custom battle EDU required for playing custom battles in order to ensure that you get the factional units first and foremost. Which ought to be among the FAQ.

Q: In custom battles or multiplayer the unit selection is missing units.
A: All of the regionals cause a problem for the custom battle / multiplayer list. There is a special EDU for custom battles / multiplayer in the "...Rome- Total War\EB\mp custom game edu" folder. Rename your campaign EDU then place the EDU from that folder into the "...Rome - Total War\EB\Data" folder. When you want to play a campaign again, switch back to your original EDU."

Yeah, and what on earth is actually broken about the custom battle edu?

It doesn't magically switch itself with the campaign edu.

I mean, come on. copying the file, changing folder and pasting the custom edu- and then repeating the process afterwards to play in the campaign?

That's at least 10 seconds work. :laugh4:

Ah,okay. Yeah,I missed that. :embarassed: I'll go into the "Unofficial Mods" section and get a copy of that file. Thanks.

Oh,the custom battle EDU is already present with the game files? Someone posted above that it was in the Unofficial Modding Projects or something like that.
My mistake.

There is a file in the unofficial mods section that makes it a bit easier to switch between them. I've linked it in my sig.

(Actually, I think there may be more than one man who would gain something by taking a look at the rest of my sig as well...)

Calm down, Watchman, calm down!

What we didn't manage to get across that the fix was in the folder, but what he had to get was the Switcher.

Without the switcher, it is a darned lot of work. Heh.

Also, the MP edu needs reworking if you have a First Cohort mod, because it keeps asking for praetorian cavalry...

Wouldn't deleting Praetorian cavalry from it work?

Switching the EDUs will work fine...
Are you refering somehow to TWFanatic's mod? I think he deleted that unit for it, but included an updated custum EDU...

I've tried putting swap_edu.bat in both the Total War main folder and the EB folder, but I keep getting an error saying "Windows cannot find 'EBmecho'. Please make sure you typed the name correctly, and try again."

Just copy and rename the files...
I never did quite understand why people would want a batch for this...
Oh well.

Well, for one thing, copying and renaming a file multiple times a day would get to be annoying. And whether it's easy or not,a task that's annoying will always be :furious3: .

You can just leave them in the data folder. Name give them both the correct name only the one you aren't planning to use gets an extra character to the name. Then next time you just have to add a different character to the other, and remove the last character on the first one. That's not much more trouble than double clicking a batch file.

Also you don't have edited stats this way.
