For me, the earlier period is better, i dont like the advanced technologies, and the wars are bleeding scotland and england dry, id say i have spent 60,000 gold pay soldiers and navy's, they wont just ceasefire either, looks like i gotta crush them :)

Yeah games turn into a WWII-stle war of attrition late on, plus by that time your a bit fed up of the same units etc. Especially fighting the Mongols and Timurids.

I prefur my superior armies earlier on, i could send maybe 2 mailed kinght units in and completely rout the enemy army, things like that just dont happen anymore:shame:

I also find it stupid that if you executed say 1000 soldiers later in the game, the enemy could just produce them again...

In the start of the game, of you executed 1000 soldiers, the enemy would barely be able to cope, you would just march your armies on them and destroy them

Not boredom per se, but the realization that you have conquered. I consider Iberia to Constantinople a win for Catholics. And the opposite side of Iberia to Constantinople a win for Islam. If I conquer that much..theres no way I can lose unless I decide to gift it all away..this is why I often find myself restarting campaigns and creating grand scenarios that make it impossible to play in the regular fashion. I enjoy naming these and playing em out regardless of the time or victory conditions (all on Vh/Vh) IE:

1) Pirate Venice ... no castles allowed only city conquests only city units
and only trade cities to begin currently hold Venice,Marseille,Milan,Kaffa
(work in progress)

2) Rebel French ... give away marseilles and burgundy take Caen,Rennes,Angers
move Capital to Rennes...paris to be held only and not built on.

3) New world Portugese Give away Pamplona hold Lisbon only until new world, take all the new world then attack europe. No euro attack allowed til your victory over the aztec

4) Trading Danes ... development of trade as primary...tryin to beat a stockholm of 9k+

5) Raiding Danes ... All coastal provinces on map under your control.. the AI goes beserk after abit with this 1..I think they know what Im up 2

6) Crusader Crush Byz. Hold Constantinople only and do not allow a crusade through your lands. fun for awhile at least.

7) Kiev or aka the anti-Timurid. Timurid defeat is your only objective and you are the front line.. you may start with any faction but must move to kiev at start. you may only conquer territories that border kiev until the Timurids arrive. Then once they appear you meet them in glorious and most likely dreadful combat.

keeps it enteraining for me..

How about, a united Italy, unify all of the Italian cities, surrounding the Papal states in Rome, like you are his armies

I find the beginning can be tedious sometimes. I personally love the buildup to pike and shot style armies with all that advanced goody's and artillery. I also like following a trimming my family tree in to super rulers.

I also like changing my family members from scum to the most valiant heros the world has ever seen.

Although, has anybody realised that if you get one of those custom marriages, and you look at the generals traits, they always say 'wife is a wretch' or 'wife is undesireable' Do you have to get her charm up to make this stop, as half my family line is blocked because of the darn wretches
