Just (once again) read this expression on the Sword Dojo; although I ve come across it most often in MTW.
In all my long experience with MTW VI (all three years of it) I ve never come across the "jedi general".
What exactly is he? Do you make him? Does he appear? What does he do?
Can I get him??????
A real Jedi general is a general of around about 10 valour. In the pure sense he is a one man unit, the rest of his unit being defeated in battle and is effectively unbeatable in melee combat. Jedis are usually spawned from elite unit types such as Huscarles, Kataphraktoi or similar, though I have seen Urban Militia Jedis in the past. The generals command stars have a lot to do with it. The Jedi is so called because he can cut his way through several units until finally brought down (usually by a missile). In short the Jedi is a phenomenon and rarely seen, though it can depend on your play style.
On these forums you will also see high valour units that are extremely difficult to defeat referred to as "Jedi".

-Edit: that's me done, I've been modding till now, it's 2am here. :Zzzz:

One thing to remember the valor virtue bug in MTW, where, for generals, vices or virtues that up valor get counted twice. I've seen a 12 valor unit of Kataphracts with the Byzantines, as he was spawned in Constantinople with a master horse breeder, and had pride, 7 command, a killer instinct. And that was a whole unit. :sweatdrop:

Thanks kamikhaan and caravel. Hope you get a good sleep, caravel.
Gah! I still remember the first time I came up against a Jedi in MTW. I was playing an Egyptian campaign and was at war with the Byzantines, and had invaded Nicaea. The province was defended by a decent stack of troops, and led by a 7-star prince. He single-handedly slew over 400 of my men before I finally brought the bastard down. :furious3:
Needless to say, I quickly learned the value of taking out Jedis with missile units whenever possible. ~

IIRC one of the major problems with jedi generals (if you face them, that is) is that only a limited number of men can actually perform an attack at the time. So if it's only 2 or 3 (can't remember the number) then you can have an army of any size, it doesn't matter. I've been defeated a couple of times by a jedi in the past, but these days a counter them with A) javelins (early) B) Arbalasters (whenever possible) or C) A high attack, preferbly armor piercing, unit in wedge and charging. The only way to actually hirt him.
As to the other point: How do you get him?
This is my best advise: You take a high star general (to maximise hitpoints), in a decent unit (not urban millitia :beam:). You would do wisely to pick one with a valor v&v or the line giving them extra "hit points", you don't have to care about acumen or other stuff. Then you make him vanguard in *all* your battles. As he kills and kills his valor rises. Be sure to remember that generals and royalty is worth extra valor - so try to take those out with your padawan. The important thing is not winning the battle, but raking in kills. (Not capturing, as that does not increase valor). The difficult thing is trying to figure out when you need to withdraw him, as you cannot keep track of his hitpoints during the battle.
You can even follow his progress in the logfiles, take some screenshots and post a story of a single individual in the 'pics and story'-thread. I've been thinking of that, but hadn't had the time to do one so far.

Where's the honour in that? Armies should give room for a Jedi vs Jedi battle! So, train your own and let 'm duke it out ~;) Easier when you can train a Kensai like in Shogun though.

Does the padawan earn valour if prisoners he has taken are executed during battle?

No. Units only earn valour by killing enemy units, and (to a lesser extent) capturing them. Executing prisoners doesn't affect valour.

Ah well, at least that means there's no need for the padawan-general to adopt nasty prisoner-execution traits during training if they aren't wanted.

MTW is not about honour. (STW could be, if you're a romantic: but daimyos didn't refrain from sending assasins for example).
MTW is about brute strengh, killing, plundering, building, training, killing, sieging and killing. That gives Valor, Vices and Virtues, and more strengh to kill. It's Total War, not "honourable warfare in the middle ages, with maidens" Ups, I think I derailed there... I did not support any notion of killing outside your little miniature digital subjects and their adversaries.
But if I roleplay, and get a general with the "chivalric" line, then it's a different matter :beam: They go to the front of the battle, take on the enemys general, stop when the enemy is fleeing, never execute prisoners, and always guard the honour of local maidens. Yes, I've now totally derailed.

Agree with the no honour thing.
Crush your enemy, see them run before you, and hear the lamentation of their women.

Not Conan....
I prefer Genghis Khan:
“The greatest happiness is to scatter your enemy, to drive him before you, to see his cities reduced to ashes, to see those who love him shrouded in tears, and to gather into your bosom his wives and daughters.”

Genghis Khan's version is far too poetic, unlike Conan's unflourished, chrystallized phrasing. It's almost Austrian in its stern austerity.
Well, if Austrians are austere, but you know, for the allitteration (mumbles and grumbles).
Atilla the Hun once said:
'Where my horses have ridden, no grass wil grow. Where my troops have marched, no peasant will ever forget us. All the cities and villages we plundered had their town burnt, their men slaughtered, and their women raped.'
But then he died from a nosebleed whilst asleep.. :wall:
