Lithuania is a hard country to play as without blitzing. With your meager income and milita level troops, its hard to fight a defensive war.

It's too bad that the Kingdoms campaigns don't seem to favor a turtle approach. I like fighting defensivly, and have a blast playing as the underdog, but I can't win without expanding ASAP.

I hope that in empires, diplomacy is improved or at least there is some type of warscore that the AI takes into account when negotiating peace deals. Im sick of having to play blitz style, not to aquire territory, but to get the AI monkey off my back by eliminating its faction.

First - consolidate all of your cavalry into one or two formations and place them so that all or most of your cities can be reached in one turn. Use them to immediately attack any enemy that lays seige to one of your cities. Once you learn how to use missile cavalry, which is Lithuania's greatest asset, they can easily defeat a force three times their size. (Basically, let the enemy chase you until they route from losses; get the enemy to move in the direction of your general and come up from behind with the missile cav using a walking barage; grab the high ground and escape just before the enemy infantry reaches you, and proceed to the next high ground, or walk away in formation while continually firing at the following infantry). Always have at least one unit of heavy cavalry in the mix to initially take out the enemy's archers. Then use the missile cavalry to take out the enemy's cavalry and general. Once that is accomplished, the remaining infantry is fodder for the missile cavalry. Once the missiles are used up, you can use the light cavalry to melee with what's left of the enemy infantry and route them.

Second - initially raise just militia spearmen and archers to serve as garrisons - eventually, two each per city - they will soon be free upkeep once the city grows. Don't waste money raising cheap town guard troops -stick to spearmen and archers, which will also serve as the backbone of your offensive capacity.

Third - go on the offensive immediately; consolidate your excess infantry on the first turn and lay seige to one of the Teutonic fortresses to the West having a large garrison. As long as you have one or two units more than the garrison the latter will not sally out, you have trapped a large portion of the enemy's army, and the AI will not be quick enough to send a relief column (plus, the Teutonics are a geographically divided force). Maintain the seige the six or eight turns it takes for the garrison to surrender or charge out at the last moment - you can easily defeat what's left, especially if you add some missile cav. Also, you can lay seige to the fortress using missile cavalry only. The garrison will almost always sally out and you can dispatch them easily (see #1 above.)

interesting tactic jepva, never really been good with missile cavalry but that certainly helps
