View Full Version : My Guide
Hi guys, I'm new on this forum. I didn't even know that this (Medieval) Total War community is this active. I have to admit that i'm a very obsessed player of Medieval Total War, but unfortunately I don't have much time to play (you know.. 'school' and 'girlfriend'.
I'm working on a complete Medieval Total War guide/book for the last year (yeah, that sounds a lot, but I can only work for it say, once a week) and i was wondering if you guys have some ideas of improving my guide/book (i don't know what to call it).
Untill now, I have already a large part of my guide/book completed, and here i have a table of contents of it (also for the non-completed part)
A1. Starting areas and rebel factions
A2. Faction difficulty and period background
A3. Pro’s and con’s of all factions
A4. Faction tactics and background information
A5. Unit-encyclopaedia
A6. Building-encyclopaedia
A7. Ways to win the game
A8. Vices and virtues
A9. Historical battles and campaigns
A10. Province-encyclopaedia
A11. Tips to win a battle
A12. Strategies to win the overall game
A13. Remaining information
A14. Medieval Total War modifications
B1. Starting areas and rebel factions *
B2. Faction difficulty and period background *
B3. Pro’s and con’s of all factions *
B4. Faction tactics and background information *
B5. Unit-encyclopaedia *
B6. Building-encyclopaedia *
B7. Strategies for the expansion-game *
B8. Province-encyclopaedia *
B9. Remaining information *
Part A represents the Original part of the game, whilst B is the VI pack. So my question is: has anyone ideas of improving my guide/book?
Thanks!
DaVega
Or did I post this topic in the wrong category? :sweatdrop:
Welcome, DaVega. ~ Yes, this would be the place for your guidebook, as most MTW players eventually come visit the Main Hall here.
Okay thanks :2thumbsup: There is a section for guides about MTW, but that only applies to Mod's, and i'm only describing the original game ;) (You all would call that vanilla game don't you? :P )

Well, there could be a chapter on the inner workings of naval combat. I for one would be very pleased to read more about that.
And then it all comes down to the level of detail you have in your book, as there are many fine points in the game easily overlooked (provinces giving extra valor to units, though it doesn't say so in the game ect.)
But I think you have categories for almost all aspects of the game, and I believe that this community will be able to assist and learn from such an endeavour.
With respect,
KotR
Yeah maybe it's a smart idea to write a chapter about ships/a navy :idea2: You talked about how detailed my guide/book is, so i'll just copy-past some examples from a few chapters just to give you an image of how detailed it is ;)
Here is an example of how I describe a province =
Swabia
Location: Western Germany
Capital city + castle: Stuttgart
Governor title: Duke/Amir of Swabia (Loyalty +1)
Basic income: 147
Resources: Salt
Tradable goods: Wine
Zeal: 9/10
Likely to become rebel naturally: 1/5
Original religion: Christian (96%) / Heretical (4%)
Bonuses for units trained here: None
Location: Inland
Vista: Hills
Terrain: Lush grassland
Waterways: None
Importance: 7/10
(Some historical background-information which I didn't copy to this forum)
Here is an example of how I describe a unit =
Highland clansmen
Sword-infantry
(Information which the game did provide, but which I didn't copy to this forum)
Construction time: 1 year
Construction costs: 133 florins
Total amount of men: 80 men
Support costs: 30 florins
Religion: Catholic
Faction: All Catholic factions (you must posses the province of Scotland)
Period: All
Parameters:
- Excellent attack
- Very strong charge
- Very weak defence
- May charge without orders
- Fast
- Poor morale
(My opinion written down in about 5 sentences, but which I didn't copy)
Mark: 7,5/10
I can't give you examples from all my chapters but that's because some of them include a (very near) complete list of all v&v's, or strategies/difficulties of the different factions :2thumbsup:

HI, DaVega!
Er, could you post that guide when it's finished? Thanks.
HI, DaVega!

Sure I will! But I think it will need more time in order to be finished ;) However, I don't know how much time I will need.. maybe even months! Like I said, I can't work for it very much:no:
And I think I will post it here on the forum, but maybe i'm going to make an PDF-file of it, for you to download, because it's rather large (i'm over 400 pages now!), or i'll make an HTML-file ;-)
But has anyone more suggestions for me? I'm open for them:book:

One thing...jus dont make it too overly huge because if a person like me reads it well get either bored or fed up after too many pages...im kinda an impatient person lol =P
Lol yeah I know, but you can always decide which pages you want to read and which not :idea2: Some chapters are maybe not as exciting as others, so you don't have to read it all ;)

That sounds really promising, DaVega. If it's that big, I'd make it a HTML file with cross references. Maybe you can put it in this sites download section then.

lol oohhhh i guess i could lol i was jus sayin that if it is too long even in the separate topics peeps will get bored/bored/fed up and bored lol
@I of the Storm = Yeah i'm probably going to make an HTML-file of my guide, but i'm not really an hero with making such files :embarassed: Maybe I will convert it into a PDF-file (Acrobat Reader), and place it on this forum to be downloaded! ;)
@Kamakazi = Lol, you should compare my guide/book with an encyclopaedia, you only read what you want to read. :2thumbsup: Or you can read it all, but then you are probably just as addicted to MTW as I am

Lol Predaturd, that's a deal!:2thumbsup: And that's good to hear Kamakazi, now I know that i'm not the only one:P
P.s. I'll first make an guide of the original game (+ VI-extension). Maybe I will make a version of the XL-mod later ;)
Cant wait for this....
BTW, what does the Bank/Royal Bank do? Does a Hospital only give a happiness bonus? Seems a bit of a waste.

Over 400 pages? It is not a guidebook, it is a full blown encyclopedia!

Lol, yeah I think you are totally right! ;) Let's call it a encyclopedia from now on :P
