Hello everyone, I have been playing many campaign as the KH and Maks for about a year now and have decided to make a Makedonian AAR. I know there are many AARs for this specific faction, though my love for Successor factions has finaly made me decide to chose the Makedonai:2thumbsup: .
In my AAR, which I have started writing a long time ago but stopped due to the long time it took to write, I have been focusing a lot on the first years (277BC and onwards) which are, IMHO, the most important ones:yes: . Those are the ones that will ultimately make my empire to be in the future. Now I have started writing again, as my passion for the spear devils has not yet died out:2thumbsup: :2thumbsup: .
I am not playing historically in any way, though my armies are usually composed of light troops in the beggining and will be replaced with heavier and more reliable factional troops in the future. No reformed Pezhetairoi will be used as well without conflicts with factions using flexible formations (Romani). There will be more focus on slow ad precise expansion, instead of blitzing my enemies:no: . This means I will reform my military as I gain more funds, as well as change in the course of time as new enemies will be met.
Also, I do not just keep record of my factions achievements, rather than narrating the Makedonian kingdom's rise to again become a powerful empire. This means I will use custom battle pictures as well to fill the gaps that cannot easily be filled just by playing my campaign. There will certainly be some interesting twists in the course of time, like unexpected events:yes: .
Many ancient Greek words will be used (Makedonai, Hellenes, phalangitai, Aigaion etc) to give a better ''feel'' and Greek atmosphere. Of course there will always be a translation on the bottom of each page:book: for those who have problems with that, as some words are unknown to EB's ancient Greek words in game.
I want to know what you think about my idea, if you would like to see something like that or want to add anything or even make suggestions. Everything is welcome from my side. Another thing I would like to say is that my AAR will probably take quite a lot of time to finish, as I am planning of waiting for other Makedonian AAR's to end or slowly ''die''. Having to chose between 3-4 AARs for the same faction is in my oppinion not the best thing. It might take untill the release of EB 1.1, but when I will have gathered enough chapters I will begin posting them slowly. If you want any additional information about my AAR, pleasedon't hesitate to ask me.
AAR and Makedonian lovers, I am eagerly waiting for your replies!:beam:
Well, it seems a pretty generic Macedonian AAR, and one I would also do, with some minor tweaks (I'm not really a great adept of "House Rules". Still, I wouldn't mind reading your AAR once it's off the sketch board! ;)

*cough* Ho Basileus ton Basileon prohibits your AAR.
Seriously, I'll maybe do a Makedonian AAR as well once 1.1 is out, so I just inform you that Makedonian AARs probably won't die out so soon.

The king of kings?:laugh4: I understand Makedonian AARs won't die out easily, but I will give it a shot nonetheless. Listen my friend, I had an idea some time ago about AAR teams. The general idea would be for a team of 2 or more people to combine their ideas in order to give the storyline different flavours as well as a non-monotonic style of writing. What would you say about this idea? I am not saying we should do this together, as I am working on my own AAR already, but I would like to know your oppinion about this.

Well, I wouldn't take part because I like to have control on every aspect. I think that two people or more sharing an AAR could lead to problems, because you need continuity. That's why every soap opera has a person just to look after that continuity and nothing else. I think the story would look somehow patched. Did you ever had to do a story together with a classmate in school? You probably remember how that looks like in the end.

My current campaign is with Big Maks and I have to say I love the faction's location and units. My favorite faction is probably still Baktria, but Their location is a little inconveniant, as they are unlikely to reach even the Black sea without a forty year war against the AS (I like the geographic options of the Mediteranean basin). My only suggestion, since you're not being historical, is that you play with a house rule of not destroying any factions. I find that Eventually you can make them an unwilling ally and put them on a one province "reservation" as a protectorate if you beat the faction sensless. I just think that that adds an element of difficulty, as it is a lot more conveniant to destroy factions than conquer them without killing them off.
Just a suggestion, I am having difficulty in my campaign forcing the Epirotes to accept my reservation system, and the Kh has gotten off Rhodes and is spreading Into Turkey. I also try to give border provinces to my defeated allies, so that I have a shell of weak client powers between myself and my true enemies... Try it, or don't, its just a suggestion, but Mak is such a military Juggernaut that by the time you unify Greece you are a serious power anyway, and this suggestion just adds a subtle degree of difficulty.
EDIT - Additionally I often have several different armies. For roleplaying purposes, these armies might have different make ups. For example, my eastern army is the classic Hammer and Anvil of phalanx and top cavalry, wheras my western Illyrian/Italian army is composed of hoplites and theuropi - heavy non phalanx infantry. I also have a 1/2 stack "Foriegn Legion" that is composed of mercenaries, and I will add a Marine corp that will act as a quick reaction force throughout the mediteranean (makeup to be decided when I have the $$). Having different armies adds another role playing element that might make the AAR more satisfying.
joint-aars is nothing difficult, I had a nice joint-AAR going on on the old RTR board
I even had an interactive Senate running a Roman aar. Made like 30 ppl roleplay a senator solely on the board while I ran the game.
Eventually I even started handing out FM to control... Huge thread with senatelike discussions all day: tremendous fun ^^
Well, I just remembered of an original idea (I suppose -_-), which is: Every Macedonian AAR is about the same thing "HAHAHA We are teh tr00 sucess0rs of Alex, lawlz lets conquer back his empire"
While what I remembered was a different approach. Instead of having to reconquer the empire like 200 other Macedonians AARs, why don't you follow up on this idea: You family recognized the greatness of Alexander, but his Empire has now split and recovering it would be difficult. Instead, your familly turns to creating a new Hellenic Empire! Since those Eastern Barbarians are already being Hellenized, why doesn't your familly expand North and bring more and more people into the Hellenic familly?
I suppose that is a nice idea. :P

I see your point, but it isn't necessary for both players to write. One can do the writing, the other edit pictures, or create movies. I am working on Windows Movie Player btw, for some vids which will probably be the introduction of my AAR.

Sounds like a good idea, though I prefer uniting all of Hellas in my campaigns, which includes destroying the Epeirotai for sure. In my two recent campaigns though, the KH move from Rhodos to southern Anatolia as well. Very interesting btw, as they become quite a serious problem for the AS. This way, Pontos, KH and Armenia push the AS away from Anatolia, while I give them funds and the like to avoid war with the Grey Death.

Sounds like fun, discussing things and such like Senators!

I like your idea very much! To be honest, I quite of wanted to give this feeling to my AAR, by raising many armies and reclaiming Alex's empire. Your idea of going north sounds good, though I don't think Greeks would ever bother with their northern neighbours (too many and too ''uncivilised'' for them, whereas the easterners where civilised). I will, however, go west. How does a war with Rome and a struggle with the Karchedonai sound?

Sounds fun. :) You can start making a bridge between your expansion and Alexander's one: Alexander attacked Persia under the pretext of "defending" the Aegean Greek cities from Persian oppression. You can do the very same. Your goal will be to liberate the Western Greek Cities from Roman/Illyrian*coughEpirotecough*/Punic/Gallic/Iberian Opression! :) 'Tis a good idea.

Exactly! My pretext of invading Megale Hellas will be the oppression of the Greek cities by those barbaroi. Btw, I'm now downloading EB 1.1 which I will start playing from tomorrow (yessssss!!!). I have also started working on the introduction video of my AAR. It is mainly just texs about the present stage of my kingdom, as well as some battle sceens of a Makedonian vs a Parthian army (like Makedonia vs the Persian Empire) in an ''old film'' style as well as some pics of the later Makedonian Empire. Nothing too impressive actually.
As for the AAR itself, I can't say I'm very far into it:P So far I've finished the introduction (prolouge), as well as two chapters. They are mostly heavy text-based, with dialouges and such. Each chapter will probably be split cause each one is quite extended. The first part will be about the unifying of Hellas, as well as the wars fought against the southern Hellenes, rebels and, of course, the Epeirotai. The first part will probably finish with the destruction of Ambrakia, followed by te invasion of the West. Especially now that 1.1 is released, I will have more inspiration to fuel my work!!!

Has anyone downloaded EB 1.1 and played it yet? Seems very promising, mine will be finished downloading like in 21:00 (Greek time). Today I will probably finish my trailer, though I am looking for some epic battle music and such...
