Answer: apparently they're all Samurai, well at least according to the unit stats file!

It looks like its a marker for 'elite status', but what does this mean in game terms? Does anyone know what, if any, difference this makes to a unit in combat?

short answer: when your peasants/nonelites flee those "elite/samurai" troops just ignore them and won't have a morale hit (ie. panic)

So it just negates the morale penalty for nearby allied routers (as long as they're non-elites) then?
