I'm double-posting this here as well as in the Apotha-whatever because my last thread in that section when unnoticed for quite a while.

I got the above message when I tried to unistall RTW Gold so I could make a fresh install for the latest version of XGM. After that I went in and manually deleted all traces of the game, then tried to reinstall, but I'm still getting the same message.
I haven't a clue how to go about fixing this.

:help:

A Common Problem im afraid, you will either have to format your computer, or when setup loads via the disc, click repair installation

I don't get a repair installation option. It just tells me that Setup.exe is closing and Windows will notify me if a solution is found.

And the only formatting option I seem to be able to dig up is to format CDs,which will erase any data on the disk.

And do you mean format my harddrive or something?

If you're talking about Formating your Hard-Drive... that will erase everything on your PC... just to make sure you know what you're doing. :wink2:

Oh and by "windows disc", he's talking about the disc that installs your operating system, e.g. Windows XP. If you don't have it your PC probably came with it pre-installed, which is very common - You'd probably only need a "windows disc" if you were building your own PC.
... wait, you were talking about that right?

I didn't know you needed to put that disc in to format your drive. I thought you merely right-click on drive then click format. Then you get this popup:
https://img170.imageshack.us/img170/315/formatmp3.png
And you just click start... I should know, my flash-drive constantly stops working (don't ask me why) and a quick format does the job... no <insert disc> for me.

Then it's a good thing this machine's only a loaner until my 1501 gets back from the repair shop.

If you do that to your hard drive, it wipes your OS, s i have been told

Hmmm, ok. Well, that's a downer... =D
What about System Recovery? Formating is a little extreme after all...

Thats what we call a "surface wear", its very common and often doesnt affect your game....try borrowing another copy and trying then

if the other works its your disk

But I play EB on my mom's desktop with it,though, and it plays fine there.

Well,I'm gonna try the system restore now,so I'll be off line for the moment.

Well, I said System Recovery.... :sweatdrop:
But Restore could work if you go back far enough.

I'm on a different computer right now.

If possible, where would I get a Windows disc to keep in reserve for this type of problem? Is it possible to write one myself on a blank data CD?

I believ that is copyright infringement, but i dont know if ya can, maybe some one else will know

Hello,

Parts of the disk going bad, or missing files/settings in the OS could be the cause, a virusscan would probably be the first thing I'ld do.

Formatting your harddisk indeed 'removes' the data, including your OS.

Well,I did the system restore, but it didn't fix the problem.
But it also restored the game data that I'd manually deleted,so I replaced all vanilla files and installed the newest version of XGM. Having that,I'm pretty much happy.
But like I mentioned earlier, the machine I'm using is a loaner until my Inspiron gets back from the repair shop.
(which I'm also kinda torn about because the loaner they gave me is more powerful than my own with a third more memory and a newer version of Vista  )

Just walk into the store when they've finished fixing it and when they say "Ahh, I've fixed your PC," then you say, "No, I am his twin brother but I will pick up his computer and deliver it to him today...". Then when they hand over your PC you grab it and run out of there as fast as you can.

When the cops show up they'll be looking for your twin brother who looks exactly like you then just give them a fake address and what not and you'll be smooth sailing.... ~:joker:
