A while ago, I declared (in the Backroom) that music was dead, or something to that effect; my point was, there is no good music anymore. Well, I stand corrected.

I hate to sound like an advertiser, but I am a Reverend (thats no lie; I have an official ordination from the Universal Life Church of Modesto, California. Anyway, that means I gotta evangelize sometime.) And these are all Myspace links because, despite any negative connotations Myspace may have, it is still a great place to find good music.

The Black Keys (http://www.myspace.com/theblackkeys)
Far-out blues rock, no more explanation needed. Songs on the site will sound different because their latest album is very different (and - darest I say? - better.)

The Quarter After (http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=9237038)
A bizarre combination of 60's folk-rock, 80's underground psych-rock (a la Jesus and Mary Chain) and modern alternate rock. Don't really know how to describe them, but they are damn good.

Spindrift (http://www.myspace.com/thewest)
Kind of a funky psychedelic Ennio Morricone-inspired Western band. Possibly the first band to write an album that spawned a movie, rather than the other way around.

The Black Angels (http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=1607546)
If the Doors were a metal band... I know, it might not sound appealing at first, but give it a shot. They're different.

Radio Moscow (http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=17823137)
A mixture of the MC 5 and Cream, with some Hendrix-inspired guitar thrown in. Heavy.

Dead Meadow (http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=4685368)
Another heavy group; their earlier work was an even mixture of Hendrix, Zeppelin and Sabbath, but they have moved into different (modern) territory recently.

The Buffalo Killers (http://www.myspace.com/buffalokillers)
My personal favorite at the moment. Just listen.

Saw The Black Angels in support of The Black Keys - or was it The Veils? Can't quite remember. Black Keys are great live, though.

What is it with 'the', anyway?

there is no good music anymore.

That is in the eye of the beholder.

Listening to the links.

It sounds cool?

Everyone used to put a "the" before their band name. I have a personal preference for the The.

And yeah, the Black Keys are damn good live. That's the main reason I like them; they have such a powerful stage presence.

It's grammatically correct?

They're not Black Keys, Veils, Strokes, or whatever...

Back in the days I recall a band called "The The"...it is their vault....plus the beatles, The Ramones :2thumbsup: & the rolling stones....

I think good live bands have a bonus these days, b/c you can't make as much money as you used to with record sales....so you make cash by giving -hopefully good- concerts. I think this is a positive developement in the last years...

Well, there are good new bands me thinks...like The Mars Volta, Arcade Fire or The Killers.

I like the Spindifts' song and the video...good choice. .....We need more good new country like that.

P.S.: The clip reminds me a bit of the little dwarfes in Spaceballs....the ones on the Desert Planet...heihoheiho.

Yeh, they've kinda gone soft.

Buffalo Killers are cool, but some of their songs sound like I've heard them before (I can often identify the main riffs to older songs lol). But, still cool.

Listening to the rest now.

P.S: Cool list of albums on the side of the Quarter After page.

P.S.S: Cheers for the links great music I wouldn't have heard of otherwise.
