View Full Version : This is Pissing me Off
So for the last couple weeks I've been having trouble consuming alcohol, well hard liquor really. I can manage to have a few beers and feel fine, but whenever I try to drink hard liquor my stomach starts to hurt pretty bad.
It started getting real bad last Friday when I threw up after ONE SHOT of VODKA while I was sober. My friend also got a bottle of Jack Daniels tonight and asked if I wanted to drink. I had all my work done so I said I'll have a few drinks. I started drinking Jack and Coke and after the first couple sips I felt sick as a dog. I literally almost puked.
So my question is what the hell is causing this? I think this may have happened last year, but I'm really not sure. I'm not a chronic drinker either. I usually drink 1 or 2 nights a week and I haven't been drunk for atleast a couple of weeks. All I know is that I'm at one of the biggest party schools in the country and this is REALLY pissing me off. I like being able to drink.
So once again, does anyone have any experience with what I'm explaining?
Edit: Looking at the Drunkards Thread (:D) last time I was drunk was about 3 weeks ago.

I think you're going to have to ease up on the hard liquor. Jack and coke can still taste pretty strong and smells strong for sure. The body is pretty good at getting us to avoid things it thinks are poisonous. I know bunches of people who have a kind of alcohol they can't drink anymore because they thrown up on it too many times. Can't say what's causing it in your case.
I don't have any personal experience with it so I can't help you further than that. Avoid smelling it and make sure that you breathe in before the shot, then chase and wait a bit before breathing out.
I think what Sasaki said is true. Your body is preventing you from what it thinks is dangerous.
The same thing has happened to me twice, but only for a few weeks. And both times were after I had drunk really hard the last time I drank, (I mean a whole bottle of vodka, a case and a bottle of whiskey between 4 people ).

Edit: Looking at the Drunkards Thread (:D) last time I was drunk was about 3 weeks ago.OK, this your Dad speaking. If you are still in school, as it seems, drinking alcohol once or twice a week is far too often. Drinking too much of it every two or three weeks is idiotic, particularly at your age.
Here is two pieces of advice (to put it mildly) that I would give my own kids:
1. Screw your so-called mates who demand that you drink
2. Unscrew your head and get a life
Kaidonni

I second what Adrian says. You want to be me, who has never got drunk in his life, and drinks only in moderation, but also suffers from dispepsia, so when he has consumed even a glass of wine with Sunday dinner, is at risk from feeling sick and bloated...and trust me, it's been so bad the last half a year that now I'm starting to get out of it, any alcohol is seen as something special, to be taken with care. Not that alcohol was ever the cause (once it was, but again, never drunk!). Never eat chilli without some filling like bread...trust me...I avoid chilli like the plague now.
To get drunk in the first place is pure idiocy. I know people say it makes them feel good at times, but it impairs their judgement (what little they have left of it), and damages their body. The key is moderation, or none at all. You could say it is your life, but later on, you'll regret such disrespect for your body.
Life is for living? Sure, and when one's body is failing in the most painful manner because of alcohol abuse...
So, cut down on the alcohol. There is clearly a pattern to what is causing you to be ill. You won't regret taking every precaution to save your health. And if your so-called mates object, find some new ones who you can grow old alongside, not outlast by several decades.

Yup, listen to your dad ....
If something is causing you physical pain and emptying the stomach, then it would be a good idea not to keep doing it  Seeing a doctor might not be a bad move either - it's just that you remind me of a university friend of mine who enjoyed his juice, and ended up with a stomach ulcer which ruptured during an exam. Not only did it leave him spewing blood, in intense pain, and being rushed to hospital, it also put his studies back by a year. So you may just need to balance your priorities.....

Talk to a doctor dude. Looks like you have a stomach ulcer of some description, and may have to lay off the sauce for a few months. Yes months. The longer you leave it untreated the longer it'll go on for. Good luck. I hope i'm wrong.
Listen to SwordsMaster. Don't look for medical advice on a strategy gaming forum. Flanking doesn't work very well against a viral infection.
If your body says no to hard liquor, then don't drink anymore hard liquor
And go see a doctor. As soon as possible.

Dyspepsia usually entails other symptoms such as loss of weight and swallowing difficulties. But it couldn't hurt to consult a physician.
It couldn't hurt to take up a sport either. At your age you should be working up a physical condition that lasts you a very long lifetime. Find your mates there instead of in a bar. It will open up a new class of girlfriends for you as well; and I mean class. :beam:

Anyway, if your body says no it tends to have a good reason.

The key is moderation, or none at all. You could say it is your life, but later on, you'll regret such disrespect for your body.
It's not only that, it's also all about knowing your limits. Too many kids don't know their limits and abuse them. Know how much you can individually handle and don't buckle to peer pressure. I know how much I can take (after trial and error) and I don't go over that anymore. I don't mind the being drunk part, it's the hugging the toilet bowl that makes you re-think how you spend your evenings.
Edit: Oh yeh, sport is good too.
Thank you Saski and others for the advice.
Some further information: When I say I drink Once or Twice a week, I mean a have a couple drinks. I don't get smashed. What I was really looking for is advice on how to cure the problem not really simply "stop drinking" dad advice.
a) I enjoy having a few drinks although getting hammered is ok once in a while but sucks when done too often (for obvious reasons)
b) Being able to drink is more a social aspect on campus. Like I said, i'm not necessarily getting drunk, just getting a very mild buzz if that.
Furthermore, I already do exercise about 5 times a week, three being weight lifting days and two being cardio days.
Once again though, thanks for all the help. :book:

to get drunk for the sake of gatting drunk isn't onl nonsense... it's quite pathetic...
I think I've experienced the same thing. Sometimes if I have even a sip of whiskey (I guess I should say had, can't remember the last time I drank straight liquor) it feels like a punch to the gut, and I may even feel a little sick afterwards. But then other times I felt perfectly fine.
I never did figure out any sort of trend on when it happened, except that it was more likely when I had already been doing something to upset my stomach (like drinking a ton of soda).
Seeing a doctor to make sure it's nothing serious might be a good idea. Other than that, if you're going to drink you might consider finding something you actually like and savoring it, rather than pounding shots. ~
Go see a doctor!
It's the better option, if it's serious it's usually better to know it early.

Well I've never been drunk in my life and everyone think its pretty funny since I'm about to finish my first year at uni.
I've only even drunk once in my life, when I drank a few beers, a little wine, a litte punch, and some of those flavoured ones like fizzy drinks, but I didn't really feel anything at all.
So I can't really give any advice, but it does sound as if your body is rejecting the stuff deliberately. You don't actually feel drunk before you are sick after drinking so little do you?
All I know is that if I do ever start drinking it won't be socially I will be an alcoholic...

I'd echo the advice that seems to be pretty much repeated above. Lay off the alcohol for a few weeks (at least) and if it happens again then maybe go see a doctor.
As to the whole debate that seems to have popped up... Drinking to get drunk is stupid and a sure way to kill your liver (have fun sorting that out... lol). Going out and having a few drinks with mates and stuff once in a while, or every week or two, isn't such an issue. I realise that some (maybe even most) would still say thats too much, but hey, I'm a uni student with a life, what can I say? Moderation (even some attempt at it) is your friend.
Go see a doctor straight away. Your stomach should not hurt after a few sips.
Have you heard of Pancreatitis?...I don't want to alarm you, but it is a very serious thing, that most people have never heard about. If you have been doing alot of partying in the last year, it's a very real possibilty.
You may not think that seeing a doctor is neccesary, as did my friend-he ended up on a mortuary slab a week later. He died 23 yrs old, what caused it? No one knows, even after the post mortem...what triggered it off?....Alcohol.
GO SEE A DOCTOR STRAIGHT AWAY!

ya'll should take what your high school drug counselor says with a few more grains of salt. Alcohol doesn't make you act like an idiot unless you already are one. Being drunk removes inhibitions, increases enjoyment from physical sensations, and gives you mild euphoria. There's really no good reason not to drink to get drunk (as non dd) unless the other people at the party are all no-fun drink sippers ~

Come on Sasaki... I'm not that naive!
Its just that when I first started uni I went a little bit (OK absolutely way way...) over the top. A couple of times my mates actually had to literally carry me home.
And shock of all shocks, I'm yet to experiance a hangover, in other words I don't suffer the consequences of my body telling me to stop poisoning myself (and yes I don't know why either).
My point is that I realised that just going out and getting pissed because I can is a complete waste of time and eventually, somewhere down the line I'm going to start paying for it. I'm definitely not a teetotaler or whatever the word is... I've just decided to confine my stupidity to proper occasions (birthdays, weddings, funerals... you know what I mean).
I'm not attempting to preach to anyone, you're free to do what you want I just don't like being patronised (however slightly, I may be a bit touchy as everyone seems to be doing it to me at the moment... no offence intended)

04-12-2008, 20:02
Sasaki, you have kind of insulted me this time, so you should have just left your reply earlier as one word. I am rather angry, actually, which is why I've kept editting this post. I have gotten upset for typing some earlier versions of this post. I suffer dyspepsia, and that is uncomfortable, making me feel sick and bloated a fair amount of the time. Last year, when on holiday, I over-indulged on rather rich foods, and I spent three days feeling ill. The third, I was burping all day, and feeling very sick. In fact, I remember my 20th birthday - 3 glasses of wine, never got drunk, but had terrible wind at 2:30AM the following morning. Felt very sick, breath tasted of white wine, was very foul, thought I was going to be sick. I've had a nasty history when it comes to being sick, and try my best to keep away from anything that would make me spew up everywhere. So I feel very strongly when it comes to drunkeness.
I've seen a family member spew up in the frontroom. I've seen drunks at a restaurant ruining everyone else's meals, even if they weren't being violent.
I do take it to heart when someone says it's 'obviously silly' for me, someone who has never been drunk, to criticise drunks. I respect alcohol, and respect my body the best I can. I have enough problems without needing my stomach pumped. Plenty of people regret drunkeness, and not all of them are drunks. Drunkeness assumes loss of control, not knowing when to stop. I just find it ever so worrying how people can downplay the seriousness of such an issue... People can do what they want to their bodies, but they need to know that certain things will attract attention and criticism, justifiably, especially something as public as drunkeness.
I'd request it to be left at that, please. You can do what you want to your body, but don't mock me for not getting drunk. The OP was also asking for advice, and I gave them advice in line with their problem, which was to lay off the drinking. And to add to that, the OP should go see a doctor. None of us are doctors, so can only give certain advice.
Please don't reply to this, Sasaki, thank you. I've tried to limit my anger in this post, which is why I editted it a number of times. But I feel very strongly on this issue, and you made it feel somewhat personal. At least that's how I felt at first, even if it might not have been your intention...
Sorry about this post, need to say it in some fashion. Still not satisfied, worried too much anger is showing through...but I'll be here all night, otherwise...hope this version does it. Maybe I'm being too politically-correct with my replies...oh well, this one will have to be settled for.

lol sorry to derail but how do you make those smilies?Since this thread appears to have run its course I might as well give you a brief explanation.
It’s not a big deal, really. All you do is apply the basics of animation. Develop an idea for a smiley, install some good freeware and off you go. Think ahead and be accurate though, or else your files and ultimately your smileys end up a total mess.
Start out with something simple. You can either scan a drawing or photograph of the basic shape you want, or borrow an existing smiley shape from the Web. I prefer the small balloon-like smilies because I think they are most expressive. At their best they are delicate little gems, like this one:
https://img249.imageshack.us/img249/217/mirrorshockvr9.gif (https://imageshack.us)
When you have scanned or downloaded the shape you need, open it in Paint or some other simple graphic program. Convert the image to a GIF. Enlarge it by 800X. You can now study its pixel structure and change pixels at will.
Suppose you took this shape from the Web:
https://img249.imageshack.us/img249/7739/proef0ey5.gif (https://imageshack.us)
Enlarged to 800x it looks like this:
https://img134.imageshack.us/img134/6214/proef01wr9.th.gif (https://img134.imageshack.us/my.php?image=proef01wr9.gif)
You can now use the paint box to fill in details such as eyes, mouth and apparel. Switch back and forth between normal size and 800x to see what works.
Eyes and a mouth:
https://img211.imageshack.us/img211/7073/proef1vc4.gif (https://imageshack.us)
Lumberjack skully:
https://img211.imageshack.us/img211/1878/proef4lu1.gif (https://imageshack.us)
Save every attempt under a name and number. You may want to return to it later. Even if most of it is useless, you can copy the good parts and paste them into another .GIF to save time.
Let's save the lumberjack smiley I just made as 'Number 1'.
Now if I open 'Number 1' in Paint, save it as 'Number 2' and change the eyes to make them look the other way, I get this:
https://img87.imageshack.us/img87/3584/proef4buk9.gif (https://imageshack.us)
Next I open a decent freeware animation pack. I like Beneton Movie GIF. Another one, very basic but fast, is UnFreeZ.
Import Number 1 and Number 2 in that order, set a delay for each frame, click the ‘Make GIF’ button, save it under a new name, and voilà, we have a shifty and therefore most un-Beirutian lumberjack:

Well I guess because you went way over the top, your body is protecting you from alcohol. If this is the case you might never be able to drink a bit decently again.
Also I echo sasaki's opinion. Getting drunk once in a while, or drinking with freinds more than once a week, isn't that bad. Just don't go to far, learn your limits, get freinds you thrust. And remember it's not how much you drink, but how much you have amused yourself. I can amuse myself whole nights only drinking coca cola, but then again I can also amuse myself drinking chimay so...

Don't even get me started on Chimay. Only time I've gotten drunk off that turned out to be a disappointing night that had so much potential in Bruge.
Anyway, I forgot to post.
It looks like I was fine after all. I tried drink moderately last friday and it worked alright. I had a decent buzz going, but I didn't go overboard. I guess my stomach those two nights just wasn't tuned to drink.
