Why dont they just give in and do it?
Either make a world of their own, OR use, say, Tolkiens mythology.
The ages BEFORE LOTR would make super gameplay, where dragons and balrogs actually were seen on the battlefields...
and we would have ents...:2thumbsup:

I've seen videos of Lord of the Ring: Total War on Youtube. Don't know if such mod do exist for real though.

I believe the mod is called "The Fourth Age: Total War" and yes it does exist.

Sure, but I'm talking about an official title, not a mod...
NOTE: Nothing wrong with mods...

Copyright costs a lot, especially for something like LOTR.
The games are history based as well. Maybe when they run out of time periods.
Take it to the mod discussion (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/forumdisplay.php?s=&daysprune=&f=119) hopefully a few like monded people will gather there.

I'm not asking for a mod, I'm asking for an official release by CA.
Never, not enough interest for a fantasy:total war, LotR fans will just buy LotR games. Quite sad I know.

I'd love to see an official LOTR TW title. The thought of fighting at Minas Tirith, Helms Deep, the Elven lands, the Dwarven lands...
I remember a while back one of the questions that come up on the M2TW launcher was something along the lines of 'would you like to see a fantasy TW title'. CA tend to give away little hints like that, like with the Star Forts in M2TW showing ETW was coming next.
I think the LOTR hype is over now isn't it? Maybe wouldn't get so much support as it could have done a few years ago, though I'd still love to see it.
While I wouldn't mind seeing a LOTR: TW title, I'd be pretty surprised to actually see it happen. I think it'd be more likely for CA to either adopt another fantasy franchise, or create their own.
Now whether or not *that* happens of course remains to be seen. Certainly it's one of the most oft-requested venues for the next Total War game (along with Napoleonic Europe and ancient China), but I'm not sure CA is yet willing to develop a title not based on a real historical era. Only time will tell.
Can't you see!? It goes by this poll:
https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=73580
From most votes to least votes. As you can see they released an expansion after M2TW and an expansion for M2TW has the most votes in this poll. Now they're bringing out the Napoleonic Total War or similar part of the poll, which has the second most votes.
Judging by this poll, the next one will be Shogun 2: Total War which has the third most votes. Simple...

I couldn't help but bring this topic back again, after watching the chronicles of Narnia a couple of days ago I was wandering what it would be like with the title 'Narnia: Total War'. This is probably unrealistic but I'd love to have a unit of minotaur under my command. :beam:
I think sooner or later they're gonna have to make a fantasy title of some sort, simply because eventually they will run out of real-world historical settings and landmasses to fight over. Unless they're just gonna keep rehashing the same titles forever.

a fantasy title would be weird.i mean,we already have fantasy units (urban cohort, ele gunners, etc)ca barely brought realism to life wit mtw2,it might as well have been fantasy.castles with no moats, muslim mongals, the invinsable janissaries, etc.it would be weird if they just started makin fantasy titles without goin back and finishing the job they started.i mean, compare starcraft to rtw.starcraft was so good they didnt even need to do a sequal.hell,i still play it.but rtw, with ai that dont kno the differabce between a phalanxe and a routing unit.all the total wars were good.but it was only mtw and stw that were classics.don kno what happened wit the last two.

It would be cool to see something like that. I love the Lord of the Rings.

No.
I would rather see a Wheel of Time version. It is some fantasy, but not so far out in some respects as other fantasies I've read, like DragonLance or Forgotten Realms. There is really only one race: Humans, and then the evil forces, which are twisted beings of humans and animals, called Trollocs. A mod for them would really include little more than changing colors, names, and making a new map.
As far as any official version, it will never happen. As previously mentioned: copyrights, and competition in existing games. TW is historical, not fantastical, and will likely never be. I, for one, appreciate that, even though I do like fantasy.

a small matter of copywrights...?
Unless thay make their own, in my opinion, Ca should stick historical and not fantasttical. The other fantasy things are done well enough with mods.
Go shogun 2, Napoleaonic, and ancient China!
