I'm trying the Turks on Early, Expert because I thought it would be a nice change of pace (I've been playing mostly Catholic). I thought that I would try some early attacks on some of the Byz provinces, but I'm not doing very well so far.
I have heard some people say that lots of HA worked well. About how long have y'all waited before you attacked? Do you go for a rush or build up facilities first?
Thanks,

It's kind of cheesy, but if you want to win and win fast, just go with sar inf.
Given their buggy valor bonus, and the fact that you can get them with the second level spearmaker, they're pretty much unstoppable.

Yeah Sar Inf is doing well for me so far. My leadership sucks however. I have been slaughtering enemy armies, but then losing in the end due to poor leadership and morale. I was just getting ahead (I've taken and been driven back from Constantinople, but am about to take it for good) and now my Egyptian allies have invaded. I got suspecious when I saw their large armies on my border and all the spies in my territory, so I started reinforcing the border, but they struck before I could shift my main army...now I might be in trouble.

In my Turkish campaign, I eliminated the Egyptians as a fcation on Turn 2, took everything up to Egypt in short order.
I then fought off a single Spanish crusade, built up a 7000 man army, and swept the Byzantines out of Anatolia and the Balkans. They gave up Constantinople without a fight, which gave me a VERY nice tech boost!
Saracen Infantry are saviours. Ottoman infantry is very useful also, since they are decent archers AND light infantry.
The Ottoman Siphai are pretty good medium cav, no complaints there, and Turcoman horse are solid light cav as well.

Last 3 campaigns was a Turks. It was fun. Two times was a normal mode. And one time was a easy mode. I one all off 'em.
First... Now you wait! Thats it. Get all of the farms so it is 80%...Use the Rum for a castle ..
Byz will wait. They do. Its strange...
I used all of my Army used a Egypt to elimate it!!
It is cool because as you know Egypt you get a butt load was cash! Then I'll wait again for a 80% the farms... In 50yrs or so. I had like 60,000 or so florins. And then I got an excellent Army!
NOW....I'll kill Byz!! http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/tongue.gif ...It is easy then.
It is fun I had all of the Jannisary Army..WOW!! That is so powerful. The best i think. The only faction I have not used was a Spain and the Elmos. I hate the Elmos..I dont know why. And I hate the yellow colors...Yuck..Its weird..I know. http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/rolleyes.gif
So there it is.

Crush your enemies, see them driven before you on the field of battle, and hear the lamentation of their women.

AUM from Granada start at valor 3. Leon, Castile, Navarre and Aragon are easily conquered and can produce AUM with valor 2 and weapon upgrades. Eastern factions will have trouble looking for iron deposits. Saracen and chiv sergeants are slightly more expensive too. I'm playing Almohad and producing AUM from 3 provinces nonstop while producing other units from other provinces.

Actually, with a bit of careful timing you can push the Byzantines out of Anatolia with a single drive towards Constantinople. In my current Turkish/Early/Expert game I managed this with a simultaneous assault on Trebizond, Lesser Armenia and the province just bordering the future Istanbul (darned if i can remember the name) with your sultan and the lovely high rank generals you start the game with, with luck you can force them back into Greece and Bulgaria without a fight, as long as you keep pushing and don't worry about rebellions behind you. You can mop up once you hold Constantinople. With luck , they should withdraw without a fight and you can consolidate with ease having seized all the important Byz production provinces and a sizeable bit of income. After that you can take on the Egyptians at your leisure and really start to rake the florins in.

Sar inf start at valor 2 as well. And, IIRC, they beat valor 3 AUM pretty handily (though it's not quite as easy as, say, a band of JHI, lol)
Edit: you know what? I think you're the one who told me about the sar inf valor bonus, so why the heck am I telling it back to you?!??!???
