View Full Version : I am addicted to Tw games - complete with flaws

As you can see, I have quite a number of games and sims to play and yet I find that I spend my hour or so a day playing a TW game. Regardless of the complaints, they have all the elements that draw me into a game. (Role playing, empire building and good battle sequences)

Yea, I was addicted to MTW1 despite the bugs...but as I got older my tolerance for half-finished games and mediocre after-sales support diminished.

The history of the TW franchise is unfortunately pointing to one conclusion at the moment. CA is more than willing to start production of a new game before pretty serious bugs in the previous one are eliminated. And if that is the case then my love affair with TW is over for the time being.

Im just sad that so many people are still quite happy to tolerate such behaviour from CA.

I predict that people will still be screaming about bugs in Empire:TW when the next TW title is announced.

its a crying shame that Shogun: Total War isn't in there

yes, i do see the warlord edition but buildings that are twice as quick to build and overpowered units like kensai just don't cut the mustard
Vanilla STW is quite simply beautiful

Wow! I wish I have all of those games on my PC. Flight Stimulator is so cool.

Wait a minute, I don't see Alexander.

LOL That could be my desktop. I own and have played most of the games if not earlier versions of them. Including the less popular Flight sims and sub sims.

Total war series definately is one of my favorite game series. I love the mix between turn base campaign with the real time combat. It such a great mix.

The Campaign mode is excellent but the biggest reason for Total War series' success is undoubt the battle mode. It's just awesome, before TW you'd never seen anything like it before, and it improves all the time.

We're all addicts here. The only games you'll find on my PC are TW titles...

I agree. Even with bugs, this game is great. I play this and Rome: Total War and love both.

No game is without bugs. I just don't notice them most of the time. Ignorance is bliss. :earmuffs:

Really...i find the franchise lacking:shame: ...but one friend was playing and invited me to play so i begun with england lost the game sadly:oops: and then I've started again this time with Scotland(it was vanilla version)...and thus my addiction begun untill one frightfull March day when after slaughtering the last remaining faction in Teutonic Campaigne i sat down and contamplated...from that day on I haven't played the game, deleted it form my hard drive, and sent the copies to the bottom of the sea(a closet in my home town just in case i want another go:sweatdrop: )

The game is awesome ..really entertaining but really played with all faction, finished the game with all factions(except those that can't be played unless moded), played mods LTC, SS...the only one i havn't played is BC I've started a game but soon after got bored and the new Kingdoms appeared:yes:  :2thumbsup: :2thumbsup:.

My word of advice...play it with moderation...it really gets addictive.:dizzy2: :dizzy2:

Wow, Terry. And I thought *I* loved strategy games! I think your collection puts mine to shame.... ~

Nice to see you've got GalCiv 2, by the way. Definitely another one of my favorites. :2thumbsup:

I bought Alexander, I just don't have it installed, along with about 40 or 50 other titles. I also have all of the general series, panzer general etc, all of the great naval battles stuff, all of the Elder scrolls stuff. I just never really got into the real time games, though I did have a few of the Age of Empires titles. I don't have the time that others have. I know that there are a lot of apparent flaws in all of the TW stuff, but since I only can get in about an hour a day, it doesn't matter much to me. Also, most of you have ripped into insides of these games and see how they work. To me that takes some of the mystery out of it. I am still blown away by the graphic look of the games. Anyone remember a game called Zork?...... Boy I played that to death, and it had no graphics at all. I hear people say, I've played Rome Total war for over 100 hours etc etc. I think they got their moneys worth...

You just have to want to spend 1000s of dollars on software and also all of the hardware upgrades to make them run. I've been doing that since Apple II, then 286,386,486dx2,P1,P2,P3,P4 and I forget what I have right now..

Hello my name is Galain and I am a Total War addict... sniff....sob...sob:clown:

It's a little bit of bad luck for GalCiv2 that I like the Total War Series so much. It is an awesome game but I dont have the time to play it because all I want to do is kill lots of people in medieval style combat.

Hello everyone,

My name is Ethelred and I too am a TW Addict. Except alexander obviously.

Due to the real world (and something called "quality time"), I only get to play once a week but play from about 5pm - 2am, depending on how many times I can say "I can't save during battles" or "just one more turn".

Currently on Stainless Steel 5.1 as the Aragonese which is going well, and will probably go back to Kingdoms now the fix has been released.

tbh I didn't notice too many bugs after v1.3, it's more the AI that bothered me, I use houserules (no radar, general cam + a bit of roleplay) to kind of combat this but late game can get a little yawnsome, but still compelling.

I travel in my job a lot but my laptop doesn't run MTW2 too well so, I play Galciv2, Civ4 and more recently Sins of a Solar Empire. Sometimes to excess.

I have to admit that the TW games along with the baldurs gate series are the only games I keep going back to play. Even after 10 years in Baldur's gates case.

I'm starting to get a hankering to replay my old Takeda campaign on Shogun now :smiley2:

Absolutely it was my first Apple IIe game that I owned and played, followed by almost every other title made by Infocom. The enchanter series was my favorite from Infocom. Looks like I'm not the only fossil hanging around here.

What, no TW? Heresy!

Oblivion is fun though, it's the only other thing I've played for more than about a week since I caught the TW bug with Shogun 3 years ago. Otherwise TW games just make everything else seem so one-dimensional by comparison; sometimes other games are good, but I generally get bored of them after one play through.
