View Full Version : Numbers of Troops
Just wondering why they changed the Troop amounts as compared against STW?
In STW for example you bought something and depending on your settings it was 100 Yari Spears or 100 Monks or 100 Cavalry etc etc.
Maybe not realitic'but now we have over 100 different Units and they come in 40's 60's and 100's and even less for Hashin(Or whatever there called) Oh me head hurts with the thought of it. lol

hehehe the reason they done it is it so much more realistic and too be honest, what would be the point of having all the same it be 100 peasants against 100 royal knights we all would know who will dominate the battle field like that. also i prefer it like this anyway.

the only thing i think is bad about that is that they have limited the stacks to only 960 men.

There I see my father.
There I see my mother, my sisters and brothers.
There I see my line of ancestors back to the beginning.
They call on me and ask me to take my place with them in the halls of Valhalla where the brave may live forever.
No, actually in you go to Options, performance you can Make the armies bigger. Which alsom makes the Stack limit bigger. But its still all the same, the armies are just bigger but they fight just the same. You need a good puter to use all those though.
Still, limited to 16 units max or 16x60 or 16x80 or 16x100, or 16xwhatever the max size is (base on 60). For me, increasing the unit size is just cosmetic, more men for the same number of unit. However, since AI doesn't replenish depleted unit often, you may find that you are vastly outnumber your opponent.
Anyway, I like the variation of unit size in MTW. 100 peasants gangup against 20 noble knights. Good match up.

What I don't like about it is that in Shogun the limit for an army was 16 units, just like on the battlefield. Now, I often have an army that is only 14 or 15 units. So to invade with 16 units I need to send my army in and a second group with 1 or 2 units.
I don't see why MTW doesn't just let you have 16 units. Who cares how many men in it?
Yeah I've wondered about the need for a stack limit too. There doesn't seem to be a good reason for it, or at least I can't figure it out.
My usual stack-size is 14 units, split like this:
5 spears: 500
1 swordsman: 60
4 missile units: 240
4 horse: 160
total: 960

They did it to confuse you. Don't pay attention. If you want the good'ole "all-even-number" units, just go into the crusades_units text file and edit them all at 100 (or 40, or 60, or 200). http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gif
yeah 200 as default - you can have 4 in a stack! http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/eek.gif
