hi I'm thinking of start a campiagn as brition on veryhard veryhard and was wondering what a historical army might be for them

I'm thinking it might be:

4 light infantry
3 medium infantry
2 heavy infantry
3 slinger or archer units mostly 1 archer 2 slingers
3 skrimisher units
2 chirtot units or 1 cav and 1 chirtiot
generals unit
making 18 units then maybe adding 2 to medium infantry or 1 to light infantry and another to heavy infantry

would that sound about right

There isn't really such a thing, every band was different. But they conformed to regular patterns for Celtic warbands.

You don't have anywhere near enough levy spearmen in there, who should make up the bulk of the force.

hmm so it was more likly to be 10-15 units of levy/light infantry what about mercenary troop and allied units?

You'd have your leader. Some nobles (maybe a unit of expensive cavalry and another of expensive heavy infantry). Then some professional warriors; more regular cavalry and some heavy or medium infantry. Maybe one or two mercenary units. Rest lights and levies.

Of course, using the Levy spear-guy kind of army you'll get destroyed left and right.

Especially after "Time of Bondsman" when the other Gauls get Neitos.

If you want to make a nice standing army for the Britons, I'd suggest a Goildilac(sp?) army, the guys from Ireland.

Teceitos are great against Romans and Iberians, because of their AP trait.
Druids are Awesome, put them near low morale units and let them chant, you units will last twice as long, they're also on-par with Calawre and Neitos in close combat.
For cavalry you have 2 choices, Goildilac medium cavalry, and Caledonian Heavy cavalry.

I like the Goidilac cavalry, because they have spears and a better charge, but the Caledonians are great against non-spear foot units and other cavalry.
Mycharn and Chariots suck.
Cwmyr and later Calawre, and later still Rycalawre and Sword-master(when do I get these units anyway?) are great at melee and with enough numbers will almost never rout, especially if druids and the general are nearby

These units seem to not exist.

Midlander spearman
Rycalawre(seriously)
Swordmasters(Kinda think of this, in 7.0, 8.0 AND 1.0 series I have never been able to recruit them)
Dosidataskeli(the ones for Both Iberian and Ireland, I reactivated them though)
Hammer-guys(I reactivated them)

If you activate those units, the Tank spearman never-die, if used properly they are of the three strongest foot units.

The Hammerguys and Swordmasters are best used against heavily armored targets but they will get slaughtered if you use them the wrong way.

I've started a campaign as brition it's pretty damn hard

my army at the min consiteds of

3 Imannae militi skrimisher
3 lugoae levy spearmen levys
1 slinger unit levy
1 Kluddobro not sure what they are put them down as light infantry
2 gaerous celtic spearmen not sure if there light or medium infantry
1 botroas southern gallic swordsmen medium infantry

would an army like that be about right or is there too many skrimishers

found that chariots are great units myself

If you're thinking of playing on VH/VH you'll need the best troops possible and lots of slingers.

Your levy spearmen don't stand a chance on VH battle difficulty. The morale penalties on VH are too severe.

Which is of course why historical armies and higher battle difficulties don't mix. It's one or the other.

I disagree I think it will work but you'll have to plan each battle as you go and maybe I'll use assassin for the first time

I'll do a AAR of how I'm doing with my historical army when I've got britian and say how I think it might work out quite well
