View Full Version : Bribed 'em, but can't use 'em?
I was reviewing some campaign notes over the weekend, and noted that every so often this issue has arisen:
I have bribed a stack in a target province, the bribe is accepted, and the stack comes over to my side...BUT....when I go to move some units out of the stack, I find that I cannot select them (other than to disband them)....I can move the entire stack no problem, but I cannot take units out of it to retrain/re-equip (where possible) or to send them to where they might be best employed... :furious3:
So - has anyone else ever encountered this issue of "partial loyalty" (they take my florins, wear my colours, but won't follow my orders)? :help:
Any ideas what causes this or how it might be fixed?
Boy I love these smilies! :laugh4:
Isn't it with bribed armies that you have to wait a turn before you will be able to use them? ;) But I never had such a problem as you described above! I don't bribe armies often then, but that's another matter.. :P

I've noticed this problem in the past, it also happens (to me) when i've lost a battle and brought back my prisoners. You can't take em out the line up to re-train for a while, either merge them with another army (they'll merge their regiments together) or possibly disbanding a couple troops might solve it. Something similar to that fixes it.

You have to wait a year before you can use them again. Either to move them anywhere else (even within the same province), to merge them, to retrain, or whatever.
However, I found on occasion (when MTW worked on the old computer), that bribes sometimes led to the armies being useable immediately, rather than forcing me to wait a year. Don't know why...
Probably just a bug.. Is there a mod available where this problem is solved already? I'd love to hear that! ;)

Bribed garrisons are useable the same year, bribed field armies which are still flashing between colours aren't. The year afterwards, they often get "stuck", so that although they SHOULD be useable, you can't select them. There are two solutions - wait a year (which may not be an option...) or merge stacks (which has its own problems - maybe you don't want the units to merge.... but to get around this, of the units that you can control but don't want to be merged, either shift them across a border, or put them in the fort before you hit "M", then they'll be exempted from the merge  )
It is a bug, and not amenable to modding.

What you want to do is to move the entire stack into garrison (if possible, ie allowed by the fort type sizewise). Then you can select single units from the stack again.

Interesting - I will be sure to give that a go when next I encounter this odd issue. Many thanks for the tip!
My own view is that this is some sort of bug, but I cannot work out what might be the cause. It seems to most often occur when bribing one stack in a province, then losing (or withdrawing from the ensuing battle with other units in that province). Perhaps the combination of the stack being "locked" while changing allegiance, and then "locked" again when ransomed back causes it to remain locked? As I said, after waiting out both lock events, I am then able to move the entire stack around to wherever I want, I just can't pull individual units out of it....
Anyways, I shall employ the "Bondovic Gambit" next time...

IIRC putting new units in the stack and then mark bugged units with the ok unit and drag them out should work as well.

Many thanks Ironside - always handy to have a second option available!
