Sorry if this is in the wrong area, but i cannot post in the frontroom, and this is urgent

Well, i recently got my braces done (this tuesday and i have to say i am having a hard time finding a food substance that can be eaten properly with these braces on (this means that it will not get stuck in the wires, so less brushing time)

At the moment, i am only eating Yogurts (soft and doesnt stick to braces) and bananas (soft and can be cut really thin)

Also i tend to swallow my food whole now (i cant eat anything with my front teeth, due to the aching) and for some reason the stupid orthodontist has put something on my back teeth that makes me unable to chew down on them, so i cant chew food at all. I think swallowing this food whole is really bad for my health, but i cant find another sufficient way of eating. I am already very skinny, and ive started eating less due to these stupid braces

Heres a list of what ive eaten and how ive liked or disliked it:

Yogurt - Easy to eat, requires no chewing and does not stick to braces
Banana - If eaten whole, in small strips, it can be easy to eat
Rice - This is very easy to eat, it requires no chewing, and is tasty
Veg Soup - Horrible, simply horrible, it got stuck everywhere, i cant get it out
Cornish Pasty - Cant eat it, its too solid, its impossible to eat
sandwiches - if a tear them off into really thin bits they are eatable, but i cant chew them
Kitkat - i managed to eat this by swallowing it whole, in small piece, but a sore chest after
Grapes - the skin is too tough, it is impossible to eat, i refuse to eat them
Chips - If torn into small pieces and swallowed, it is possible to eat
Battered fish - if torn into small pieces and swallowed, chip results
Chrisps - smashed the pack all over the place, leaving small crumbs which are edible, but give no feeling of fullness, as i didnt chew them

I have to take this wierd small brush to school, i havent used it yet, havent got any food on my braces yet, im afraid ill look like a wierdow using them in public, and i dont have a mirror, so how the hell am i supposed to see the food in my braces?

Does anybody have any suggestions for what i should eat, im currently taking 4 pain killers a day, 2 in the morning, roughly 8 am, and two at 1.25 pm, which is 3 hours apart, the reccommended time...

Anybody else with braces eat easy things? I really need help with this, thanks

I got braces, it's been there for like 8 month. I know it can be painfull at the start, anyway I disregarded the eating rule completely. While if the food get stuck in your teeth there's not much you can do really, just forget the fact that you're wearing it. The first week was hard though, I had to miss football training because of the aching it causes and the wires just drop off ocansionally, giving the chance to visit the dentist and maybe miss a day of school.

My is due to come off October this year. If you just got them then prepare for a rough ride.

Yeah, I remember when I got braces (back when I was a lad), I had the same problem. The only suggestion I can think of is that you might try sandwiches. You obviously need a very soft bread, though, and you have to avoid ingredients that don't require a lot of "bite-down" force (so harder/thicker meats and cheeses are out).

In the end, however, you may not have much of a choice but to limit yourself to non-filling soft foods, at least for a little while. I remember my front teeth were so sensitive that I wasn't able to eat any real solid foods until two weeks after my braces were in.

My teeth are so sensitive, i cant bite down on a grain of rice without them hurting, and these stupid stumps attached to the braces stopping me chewing are a serious problem, how the hell do i eat food then??? throw it in a blender and eat the remains/???

Those stupid stumps stopped me eating chewing gum so now I eat tic-tacs:laugh4: . I remember I had to cut the chips into little pieces in order to eat it, I couldn't eat chicken burgers anymore because my month couldn't open wide. Looks like you'll need to get use to it, may take a while though.:sweatdrop:

I dont normally eat chewing gum anyway, i just cannot chew food with these stumps stopping my molars grinding together, its not possible, i didnt realise this was such a great commitment, getting braces...

How long is it supposed to ache like this, its getting on my nerves, i cant eat anything normal, i look like a wierdow

Also i found a new filling and tasty food...

Mousse!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's gonna ache for a week or so at least. I don't see why anyone should call you a weirdo for wearing braces, I know they're not fashionable but lots of people wear them. If anyone criticise you for wearing braces remind them you're gonna take them off one day and your teeth are gonna be better then theirs.

I could say that, or my personal come back is this:
Random wierdow says ''hahaha you got braces, what a freak''
I say ''Well atleast my teeth are fixable, unlike your face...''

Don't worry about it - from what I can remember, the first week was terrible, but, eventually, things improved. At most few days of pain were often endured after each tightening up, but this was not much of a problem for me.

Basically you'll soon be over the worst of it and be able to eat anything any everything with no pain. If you're concerned about getting debris out from between your braces, this isn't too difficult and can be done with a bog standard toothbrush - simply brush down in between the gaps and afterwards swill out with water to remove the trapped food.

From my experience, you don't need to completely take their advice to maintain healthy teeth while having the braces on. Brushing with a normal toothbrush and toothpaste, making sure you get between the braces, is fine. Electric toothbrushes are especially effective in performing a good clean.

When I wore braces, staining developed in particular areas, although occasionally using whitening/smokers toothpaste or toothpowder, the latter being especially useful, can easily combat it.

Having something preventing you from biting isn't very convenient, but the hard truth is that you can't really do much about it. Eventually you will get used to it though and rapidly devise a method of chewing without grinding those teeth together.

Hope things work out Ok for you Bartholemew-Varath ~:)

They hurt after every tightening, oh god, i cant eat like this anymore, its very annoying, i just ate a banana, A BANANA, i cant remember eating one of those in ages! These braces are probably getting me healthier, but i never did care about being healthy, although i have noticed i have considerably improved in my cricket bowling and a little in my batting stances.

Also i am becoming more restless, i keep refusing lifts home to walk home when i have my full cricket bag, including pads, gloves, bat, my school clothes, part of my cricket whites, a few cricket balls, a lunchbox, a few books, and the rest of the junk i have in there.

Also, to anybody who has braces at the moment, do you have a wierd piece right at the corner of your mouth, its like the orthodontist has curled up the remaining wire, it sometimes catches my lip and gives a little discomfort...

Im also curious about the shape of my mouth when trying to conceal my braces, my lip was already fairly over-extended (due to my front two teeth being a large distance from my other teeth) but now, my lips can barely conceal my teeth, its becoming hard to not give the girl i sit next to the satisfaction she wants from seeing a smile, and i dislike letting people win...~:mad ~:mad ~:mad

I have made a new discovery,i can eat biscuits too, i just need to dip them in tea first, so they soften up, then eat them, finally something normal!

Its not as much of an ordeal as you are making out BV, yes they can be painful at first if you try to eat foods which are too hard, limit yourself to scrambled egg and even things like braising steak and mashed potato. When you have them tightened they only restrict your food intake for a day or so, eventully after a few tightenings you will be used to them and be able to eat anything you like except things that will get stuck like toffee, chewing gum etc.

My teeth arent aching as much as they usually do, i only needed 1 painkiller at 1.25 and ive been fine since....

I might have been in trouble at cricket today, but the match was cancelled as it rained, so im fine at the moment. I managed to eat a little more today, its becoming easier

Give it some time, the pain will decrease naturally.

Why would i want to sign up for a program that i dont know about, and allow cookies to go onto my computer from it, that seems suicidal. I would rather take my chances here at the org, well Sam, it doesnt seem like you are going to be making any money from me~:0

I found pasta to be pretty good food to eat while wearing braces, so long as you boil it for long enough.

And yes, they are supposed to hurt like hell for the first few days after being tightened; I generally found them OK after the first few days though. I'm sure it's all character-building! Or if not, it is at least a very nice day when you can finally get rid of them for good!

Oh like when after you slam your head on the wall for 5 minutes straight and you stop and the sensation you get afterward is such a relief. :laugh4:

I am beginning to eat solid foods now, i ate some chips yesterday, whereas a few days ago eating a chip would cause my teeth all kinds of agrivation. I havent taken a painkiller in 3 days now, i dont think i need them anymore...
