View Full Version : EB 1.1 Maps

There have been a number of questions which in some way or another required an updated EB maps thread. (The old one dates back to the days of 0.7x.) So, here's an EB 1.1 list of 'FAQ hidden resource maps' -- with a short description of what the thing is (supposedly) used for. These maps should cover the gaps left by the building trees.

Click the thumbnails for full size images. ~;)

Part I : Hidden Resources

Reformed Governments for Pahlava and Hayasdan

Pahlavahome (required for reformed pastoralism (?) and the transition into the reformed Parthian governments)

Italy (regions which can trigger the March Of Time -- or was it Progress? -- which also requires the culture of the 'triggering' faction to be roman (?) )
http://img32.picoodle.com/img/img32/4/4/23/t_italy11m_b8d5966.png (http://www.picoodle.com/view.php?img=/4/4/23/f_italy11m_b8d5966.png&srv=img32)

Anything I forgot?

Part II : Disasters

Eartquakes

http://img26.picoodle.com/img/img26/4/5/20/t_earthquake1m_2e6a299.png (http://www.picoodle.com/view.php?img=/4/5/20/f_earthquake1m_2e6a299.png&srv=img26)

Floods

By default this is disabled in the standard descr_disasters.txt file in your \EB\data\world\maps\base\ folder; as floods may cause certain bugs among them permanent flooded territory (hey Atlantis!) and permanent movement penalties. Also, floods have been reported at sea (though we hope to have that one sorted out with 1.1 as it turned out some of the 'loci' were accidentally placed in The Sea region).
Nevertheless, these floods are defined in the special 'use at your own risk' descr_disasters_floods.txt file in the same folder. These are the 'loci' as defined in this text file:
http://img30.picoodle.com/img/img30/4/5/20/t_flood11m_3dae009.png (http://www.picoodle.com/view.php?img=/4/5/20/f_flood11m_3dae009.png&srv=img30)

Plagues

Plagues may occur in regions/cities regardless of whether these have been assigned in descr_disasters.txt; as plagues may be triggered by a combination of high squalor levels and poor health levels in your settlements.
However the 'loci' as defined here do have an additional risk of catching the plague. You will notice that they are (mostly) located along the great trade routes on the map:
http://img26.picoodle.com/img/img26/4/5/20/t_plague11m_0ae5892.png (http://www.picoodle.com/view.php?img=/4/5/20/f_plague11m_0ae5892.png&srv=img26)

Volcanoes

Note that these represent the active volcanoes only, and that there are inactive ones located on the campaign map as well.
http://img27.picoodle.com/img/img27/4/5/20/t_volcano11m_51c58d8.png (http://www.picoodle.com/view.php?img=/4/5/20/f_volcano11m_51c58d8.png&srv=img27)

Part III : Resources

Mines

Gold (Large Vein Precious metals)

Silver (Small Vein Precious metals)

Update: getting the tool

This section is an update to reflect that as of today you can download the tool from our FTP server.
Please note that the download consists of a single Gzip'ed TAR archive (tarball); to extract its contents a program such as 7zip (or tar) will be required. The download contains:

Java source code (you will need a Java 1.6 or compatible JDK to compile from source),
A readme
A COPYRIGHT file containing the licence
a regions PNG file which dates to EB 1.1. If you need a newer regions file or wish to use the tool to inspect a different mod you must prepare a PNG copy of the corresponding MAP_REGIONS.tga file.
An executable JAR file (you will need a Java 1.6 or compatible JRE to run the program). Depending on your OS you may have to grant execute permissions on the file.

You can download the Java JDK/JRE versions from here: http://www.java.com/en/

Finally, the tool is released under the following licence:

Very nice Tellos.

One should definitely add that only Rome can trigger the March of Time. Are the required cities built up to huge by a different faction than Rome the March of Time won't happen and therefore the Vanilla Marians won't happen, which means no Hysteroi Pezhetairoi and no Late Bodyguards.

Why is that? As you know, Romani is in EB the vanilla Seleucids, and the trio of EB Seleucids, Pahlava and Baktria make the vanilla roman factions. In that light it is little weird, at least to me, that only Romans can trigger the march of time...

Hmm, can the RV be updated? I'm not able to build any Thraikioi Rhomphaiaphoroi as Epeiros in Serdike, Tylis and Kallatis O_O.

It's linked to the Roman culture slot, not the Roman faction.

Thanks for the maps, BT!

Gallicport (what's it used for?)I think the Pontones Trevas.
Unit description says they were specific to the Veneti of Armorica who Caesar fought.
As Aedui in Tolosa I can build only Pontomora Trevas & Ponto Trevas but I also get the Pontones Trevas up there in Dariotorum.

Thanks for updated maps :)

I am not too sure of that. As P. Ruma pointed out: the Romani in EB are actually the Seleucid faction - and they for sure can trigger the thing. (Seen it happening myself.) Other than that, the internal roman factions are the Saba, AS, Hayasdan and Baktria. So, me is confused. ~

I'm going to move and sticky this in gameplay guides subforum. That way it will be stickied, but not on the already clustered main forum...

Ok, done.
And here is the old map thread just in case anyone need to find it, which I'm going to unstick:

What if I give a Huge city back to the Romans? Or do they have to make it Huge on their own?

No Hysteroi is becoming a problem in my Mak campaign.

No, the Imperial Palace which makes a city officially huge, must be of Roman culture. Since only SPQR is of Roman culture, only they can trigger the March of Time, sorry.

One should definitely wait until the March of Time has happened before attacking SPQR.

I found out that to initiate the march of time, a romani italy city has to become huge, but it can't be roma. This is bad news for citymod users, as the only huge italian city is Roma, so no march of time. A way around this is to give Capua the ability to become huge.

I was actually looking for a blank map without names. Are any of those around? I mean showing only province borders, no names.

Tellos Athenaios
06-25-2008, 23:36
If you don't mind the provinces being fully coloured as well, you can make do with MAP_REGIONS.tga found in eb/data/world/maps/base.

I believe that there is a small mistake on the Naval port maps... Athens (Attica) is not shown to possess the ability to build naval ports, and it clearly does have that ability. Historically Athens was defined by its navy, and in the game I am able to recruit ships. So there is no mistake in the gameplay itself, but the reference map has that error. Thank you for maps anyway, I obviously use them, or I wouldn't bother to comment...

Hm would it be possibly to get new, updated versions of the Type I+II government maps from the last thread? I'm not sure which ones have changed from the old maps *In my last Aedui and Getai campaigns, they were dead on, but the Carthage one is super wrong.*

johnhughthom
07-17-2008, 20:34
You can use the recruitment viewer to check govt types.

LorDBulA
07-18-2008, 21:21
Not really. Government data in RV is outdated.

Tellos Athenaios
07-20-2008, 08:29
Well that may be the case, but the program I wrote to plot resources, hidden resources etc. doesn't handle the campaign script. Therefore, it can't draw you the government maps like that; and in any case it is part of the RV already. You can get a decent enough overview of the governments of the various factions by looking at its maps.

Puupertti Ruma
08-15-2008, 11:17
To repeat my request in the "An idea to fix the trading ports" thread, could you please, pretty please, make a map with the hidden resource river in it.

Also, maps for the trade resources could be cool, but not very important. At least for me.

Tellos Athenaios
08-15-2008, 11:24
I only briefly skimmed the Idea to fix Trading ports; the only thing I read in detail was your building-line-up proposal. ~;)

Tellos Athenaios
08-15-2008, 13:41
It took me a while to create the requested map, but at long last there it is (bottom entry in the list about all the ports).
Trying to launch SUN's Java Runtime Enviroment v6 *with* arguments to your program is a pain in Ubuntu; I eventually resorted to creating an alias for the rather cumbersome command to invoke the JRE... <_<

In that case you're far better off looking at the lists of hidden resources in .../world/maps/base/descr_regions.txt. Couple that to a plain GIF map with regions & cities by Teleklos (EB website...!) and you are good to go.

The maps on the homepage are maps from EB0.8:

https://www.europabarbarorum.com/i/eb_map_080_antique.jpg
https://www.europabarbarorum.com/i/eb_map_080_plain.gif

So are there these maps for EB1.2?

Nope, some regions were removed and added elsewhere.

The map on "features" at the EB website is 1.2 accurate though.

There is a more up-to-date map in the July 2007 map preview (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=88708). There is also a link of a basic map somewhere, but I can't find it and for some reason the EB team does not want to give it  .

Umm... Sorry to go gravedigging here, but --- what with the last post looking a bit like a dead end after 2 hours of searching the forum (and the internet, and Bing, and Google), I am now bumping this (*BUMP*), hoping that the great Tellos Athenaios (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/member.php?15896-Tellos-Athenaios) will happen upon it and hear my plea.

Please, Tellos, could you re-upload the missing screenshots? Or provide said password? I saved all the screenshots about a year ago to avoid this kind of situation, but alas my hard drive got stuck (careful with Seagate Barracuda drives)... And it is still stuck, unrecognizeable to the OS, so the files I saved are lost and I can neither share them here, nor re-download them because the links in the first post are broken...

Greetz,
NM

P.S. - to possibly save the great one some work, in case anyone still has the images corresponding to the dead links, it would also do if you would just post them here, right...? So, if anyone still has the (naval) ports resource maps, pleeeease share them. =)

Nachtmeister

Thank you for your input, XSamatan. =)
I fear the drive will probably not be accessible via a recovery tool as it is no longer recognized by the BIOS; it seems to be a known issue with Barracuda drives of the 10-12 series: The drive's firmware "locks itself in", freezing in some state and no longer communicating with the SATA controller on the mainboard (it doesn't appear on boot output with the other drives, it is as if it didn't exist anymore and I first noticed the problem when it simply disappeared from my windows explorer; there were no mechanic disturbances of the PC at the time so I am ruling out cable damage) and the solution involves partially disassembling the drive to do a "hardware reset" by closing some contacts otherwise hidden underneath the silicon control unit, then flash-updating a new firmware - and I simply can't afford to put up the time needed to read up to a point where I would *really* be "knowing what I'm doing". Since making mistakes there could potentially damage the drive beyond even expert repair, I have removed it from my computer for now, until professional recovery services get more affordable, or until I get rich, or until I have the time to seriously study hard drives...

As for pointing TA here, I would also greatly appreciate that! =)

-Greetz,
NM

I do not have the map, but I can give you the list - it is pretty short on purely "nomad" provinces: Dahyu_Alanna, Dahyu_Aursa, Dahyu_Mazsakata, Dahyu_Roxsalanna, Dahyu_Yazyga, Saka_Yabgu.
