In my most recent campaign they decided to stand near Yerevan after I had just captured it,so I evacuated the city and left them to it.About 50-60 turms later 16 full mongol stacks turn up,bypass all the defended cities and lay siege my my city of antioch.What you do when they stand still and do nothing,as I'm pretty sure that they stood around long enough that the reinforcement waves that come later,added to their army,I didn't feel like taking that many stacks on in a field battle..

I've had this myself also. I wouldn't reccomend taking them all on at once, unless you have more men than you know what to do with.

I would let them take Antioch, once they have "settled" there you can start to whittle them down, one stack at a time.

I asked this very same question a few days ago. Have some kindly advice but not many responses. I do think peops need to wage in on these issues...

My experince is very similar, in some cases they will wander round. To get them moving you need to have a go at them. Challenge them with a small stack...

It's a bit like a wasps nest - give it a poke & get running!

yeah I've never had them do that before,when they appeared there before they always moved up and engaged the russians in mortal combat.Hopefully my polish allies that have taken most of egypt will slow them down,once they move on..

You can try some "suicidal" attacks on them and take almost every unit in Antioch out. The latter suggestion should get them moving. Leave it, or whatever city you want them to go for almost empty until they get very near. They probably won't attack any city fully stacked except Antioch, until they have captured it (or Kiev if they are in the north). Same goes for Timurids.

If you really want to make it easy, while the Mongols are walzing toward Antioch attack their armies with the siege equipment with light cavalry. Charge the siege equipment until destroyed. Repeat until they have none. Then you can beat them when they assault with drunken peasants and a handful of good units. Build ballista towers in Antioch just to make it really easy. If you put some good spearmen behind the gate, most likely their general(s) will all charge recklessly into them and be killed easily. Armored sergeants do just fine. The Timurids seem to be even easier as IIRC their troops are not all of as high experience and they route easier.

Forgive me for asking/pointing this out. The Mongols and Timurids are not automatically at war with anyone when they appear, so unless they attack you or you attack them they will often wander about waiting for a weak spot/faction to target.

Nexxtime use the pretty bridge otw to Antioch and get a heroic victory

I didn't have time to do that,I had about 5 cities in there line of march so I was busy frantically shipping as many troops over as I could lay my hands to see if I could muster enough troops to defend Antioch,as well as building troops en-masse in every city that I'd fought they'd hit,plus I was laying siege of a few Venetian cities also.By the time I had enough that I felt that a bridge defense was winnable they were already standing around antioch.

I thought the Mongols always wanted to settle down (find a new home) either in Kiev or Antioch?

My experience is that they always lift the siege they have intiated on a city after some time, when they haven't settled down yet. They "think twice", and decide that "this city isn't good enough" and strolls around until they find Kiev or Antioch.

Well in my curent game they aren't doing that.Instead they took antioch but let it become rebel,so I re-took it with a force that could repel them if they decided to take it again,then they decided to make a move of one of my freshly taken towns,which they promptly decided against when I reinforced the garrison with more trrops from one of my fortresses.Right now they are wandering between Trezibond and Antioch back and forth while they make up their minds what to do.
