I'm getting another game killing bug playing the Romani. Its 205bc and the germans are trying to take Milan. When I go to resolve the seige the battle screen freezes. No ctd, it just stops dead after the bar moves slightly.

I'm playing 1.1 with rtw1.5 and no other mods. I've loaded all the permanent fixes.

I can resolve battles fought out in the open but not city seiges. I cant tell if there are any cities in rebellion from the toggle_fow option. There have been no problems with the strat map. I'm going to go ahead and use the auto_win function to move forward for right now.

Did you try doing it a second time? Did you try waiting a turn and trying the siege?

If you can just use auto-resolve to move past it, then there might not be that large of a problem.

It just happened again in an open field battle against the macedonians. The battle went ok but when the results screen came up I waited 10-15 seconds and hit the continue button and the game froze.

With the milan battle I tried 3 times to resolve it with no luck. Each time the music skipped and then stopped as the game froze.

Is there a problem with the music? Whenever I advance the turn or hit the continue button it skips, makes popping noises, and then stops.

Using auto win is ok for one or two times but it kinda takes away from the game so I really hate using it.

Try using the validation tool. Also, check if your sound card drivers are up to date.

Changed file: .\eb\data\scripts\show_me\ebbs_script.txt (expected checksum 1c90a4897e4769351062ed89b41106de, got ddfbf17e474705d83fc354f04583f340)

What's this? Have you been tinkering with the script?

Anyway, what you're describing sounds like hardware problems. Run memtest overnight, and a deep scandisk too. Try to upgrade and downgrade sound and video drivers.

Update: I'm beginning to think this is a RTW problem and not anything to do with EB. I checked my hardware and its fine. My comp is way-overpowered for rtw with dual 3.0ghz procs and 2gigs of ram and a gtx7900 card. I checked the temps on my card and its running fine and my ram is ok as well. I'm able to run COD4 without any issues.
I then checked the totalwar forums and there must be several hundred(maybe thousands) posts about the same issue--battle screen ctd's. The totalwar people consistently blamed it on the hardware and never questioned or checked the stability of the game itself. There is a lot of frustration over there with SEGA about the crashes as they cover all the total war series games.
I'm going to do a complete reinstall to see if that will change anything.

BTW I fired up MTW2 and got crash on the first battle I fought.

I think actually Sega is right in blaming it on the hardware, as I've never ever had a crash during a battle.
