Hi There,

I just read in an article that most Medieval inland European trade was conducted by Jewish merchants.

Therefore, I'd like to give merchants Jewish names. But which file or files do I need to edit, in order to change merchants' names?

Also, while I think, Catholic priests or monks would be called 'Father' or 'Brother' etc. - so is it possible to rename priests as well? I'd be grateful to know which files need to be modded in order to rename strat map characters.

Thanks in advance for help!

Hmmm I don't think that would be possible.

All units produced by a faction are assigned names from a list of names for that faction. So unless all merchants were restricted to one Jewish faction, this will not be realized. You can of course make a trait which has a number of levels each with an epithet to control their "lastname" (or rather their displayed "lastname") but the firstname cannot be influenced that way. That trait would need to be assugned at random levels to eah new spawned merchant.

For priests, I don't think its possible either as only factionleaders have prename titles. Again, you could use epithets for that.

Hi FactionHeir,

Thanks for this.

OK, I can see what you mean. Perhaps the nearest I could get would be to add some slightly Jewish first names (e.g. Simon, Joshua or whatever) with an epithet (e.g. 'of York' or whatever). It's not really what i had in mind, but I might try it. Thanks again for the info.

Also, thanks to Dr. Croccer for names link - I'll check it out.
