I like to micromanage the characters, you know, to follow them from their becoming mature up to their glorious death in battle or in a city. But taking care of the characters becomes hard when there're too much of them, I can't follow everyone, plus even if I choose someone the rest of the family members - crowd of them - just mixes me up.

Is there a way - via editing some .TXT file - to diminish the quantity of children a character(s) can have?

I'd like to have smth like a strict genealogical line from the 1st kind whom I start the game with up to his grand-grand-...-son, don't want no herd of heirs, you know...

Moved to Modding Questions - a better answer should be gained there :burnout:

well, there are fertility traits (and their contrary)
however, from what I saw, they're not working like they should; infertile characters fathering (?) about 3-5 daughters, fertile characters with no descendants...

I suspect the hardcoded province/family member ratio is messing things up.
I have no proof to ground that though.

You can affect birth rates if you make a trait that will decrease Fertility, but still I think you won't see such a great effect, most characters will have 1-2 children anyway.

;------------------------------------------
Trait Kill_Fertility
Characters family
Hidden

Level killfertility
Description killfertility_desc
EffectsDescription killfertility_effects_desc
Threshold 1

Effect Fertility -10

;------------------------------------------

;------------------------------------------

Trigger kill_fertility_trigger
WhenToTest CharacterTurnEnd

Condition CharacterIsLocal
and Trait Kill_Fertility < 1

Affects Kill_Fertility 1 Chance 100

;------------------------------------------

¬--------------------

{killfertility} Kill Fertility

{killfertility_desc} This is a hidden trait that will decrease your characters' fertility.

{killfertility_effects_desc} -10 Fertility (decreases the chance of having children)

¬--------------------

First entry is the actual trait (trait section of export_descr_character_traits.txt, second is the trigger (trigger setion of the same file) and third is the text enty (text/export_VnVs.txt)

This isn't going to solve your problem completely, though. The game's engine keeps track of the ratio of the number of family members vs the number of regions you control. When the ratio gets too low, it will increase the overall number of child births, man of the hour events, and marriage proposals, regardless of the traits. As far as I can tell, the fertility effect only controls the chances relative to other family members.

Well, I think the only way left is to use kill_character <character> code...
